What a week! My girls came up short in the championship game to an excellent three-peat champion team. We worked hard all year. There is no quit in my girls. Our second place national finish is the highest finish ever for an Aggieland team. That’s a pretty great start for these girls. #silverballchamps2018#wheredoikeepthetrophy#homeschoolprobs
Emmett and I use Storybird for language arts, creative writing, and typing class. It’s great because when he is done writing, I can order copies of his book and send it to family members. It’s also great to include in your homeschool portfolio! Today on my blog, I walk you though how to create assignments on Storybird for your homeschool. “Never F-ing Quit”
This is one of our team mottos, and I love it.
This past week or two has been SO challenging. Life has been crazy. It’s felt like a round-the-clock marathon, with very little time for sleep. And I’ve had some days that were less than perfect, nutrition-wise. It’s been so tempting to skip a day, or to throw in the towel and go back to shorter workouts.
But I am determined to see this through to the end.
I will not give up. I will not quit on myself. I will not quit on my challengers or my team. I will not quit putting in the effort to be as healthy and strong as I can be. And I will not quit helping others do the same.
Because our physical and mental health and our energy are worth fighting for! I know it’s hard. But being unhealthy, exhausted, sick, anxious or depressed is even harder.
We get to choose our hard. We get to decide if we will fight for it, or if we will give in to our negative self-talk, our cravings, our apathy, and all those other competing demands.
I choose to fight and I will never f-ing quit.
Day 46 is in the books, and phase 2 is almost done!
Plus, tomorrow is refeed day, and no one quits on refeed day. Because brownies! 🙌🏼 😁

Y’all. It’s been a day. I gave myself a mommy time out today and climbed back in my bed for a little bit.
Thankfully that little bit of rest seemed to snap me out of my funk today. I told Greg tonight I think maybe I need to be getting more sleep at night. It’s difficult to fit self care into my schedule if it’s AFTER the kids are awake. #homeschoolprobs
But, my husband is amazing and he is so good to me. We went grocery shopping, had leftovers for dinner to clean the fridge out, and he said “Why don’t you go take a bath?”
I normally respond with a “You don’t have to ask me twice!” But tonight I opted to read. Alone. In my bedroom. With yummy chocolate chip cookies (and they are even healthy!), my Powersheets, Happy Planner, The Wellness Revelation, and Life-Giving Table. Oh yes, and my trusty colorful pens. #nerd
I know. I’m being way to ambitious considering my eyes are already droopy. No matter what does or does not get done or read tonight, right now,
I’m just thankful for the quiet. 🤓📚
Surprise!! Today we returned to our bungalow to have this beautiful group of loved ones spring out to share the surprise of them having decorated our garden. Words can't describe...⠀
We were returning from making an agreement on a place to stay for the rest of our time here... single family dwelling, detached... You know... The normal thing to do... And now to leave behind this family... Two grandmas, two grandpas, two young couples with kids... Beautiful, darling people. We hadn't informed them that we were departing. We were just creating the next part of our journey... And now to say goodbye. I'm crushed, truly. This morning I turned around to see one of the grandpas quietly hugging Abigail and Henry. He never speaks to me. This afternoon the other grandpa grabbed Henry and tossed him in the air twice. He never speaks to me either. They don't need to speak to me. Their hearts speak to me. They don't need to placate me with congenial words or gratuitous gestures of recognition. I've learned from them. Now, after dusk, Ibu Mama, the grand matriarch of this place sits on her veranda, as usual, one leg hanging over for comfort, knife in hand, meticulously slicing, shaping and weaving palm fronds into offerings for the gods and today she's also made some hats for the grandchildren too. God I'm going to miss these people. Their collective energy. Their family values. Their humanity. I'm grateful for what I've experienced here. I guess we'll move on, but first I have to summon the courage to tell them we're going... And that's a tall order.

I asked the magic 8 ball if this homeschool burnout (that most of us homeschool mamas experience at this point in the year) would end soon. It’s leaving me in suspense, I guess. 😂
I hereby declare this entire last week a wash! The February blahs have us at each others throats and we are all on empty (even my truck apparently🤷♀️). Sometimes circumstances beyond our control sabotage our carefully planned week. Sometimes we desperately try to regain control of the runaway train, damaging relationships in the process. 🙍♀️🙍♀️🙍♀️🙍♀️
Let’s face it, even if we started down this homeschool road because it was ‘easier’ than sending our babies to school, we did not stick with it for that reason. It is not Easy. Sometimes it is very, very hard and we want to quit. 🌀🌀🌀🌀🌀🌀
As hard as it is, sometimes it is even harder to give ourselves permision to toss the whole plan and just focus on loving each other for whats left of the day/week. But that is what is needed more often than not. 👨👩👧👦👩👧👦👨👧👦👩👧👨👧👩👧👧👨👧👧
Breathe in calm and breathe out Love 💗 .

Start Family Adventures with Free Activity Sheets in the Expedition Library.
I can’t count how many times I didn’t have an activity or worksheet handy for a field trip or study unit. After searching the internet for something to use I end up creating one instead. Sign up for my newsletter to get these activity sheets for free.

Having my baby travel half way around the world to share her honeymoon with us... that was not on the brochure for this journey of being a Dad. I am profoundly honoured and awed by this girl and my son-in-law for the way they stepped into this new world and embraced what they discovered with open hearts and open minds.

Can I talk about the importance of community for a second. Well, I’m gonna. I was knee deep in Homeschool everything tonight. Feeling a bit overwhelmed and inadequate as High School registration is tomorrow. I got a simple text message that shifted my thinking and helped me to breath. It didn’t make the pile of papers go away or picking the right course any easier. It didn’t magically lower the anxiety I had writing out that big check. It did however let me know that I wasn’t alone. That there was someone else out there who got it, understood, heard me, saw me and then encouraged me. It was the wind I needed beneath my wings at that moment. So I pulled up my big girl panties and are beyond prepared for tomorrow! For the year, not quite yet, but tomorrow I will conquer. That is what #GritMatters is all about. It’s about finding your #MeTooMammas . It’s about knowing you aren’t alone. It’s about encouraging, guiding, sharing and experiencing this sometimes scary parenting journey together. So invite your friends and chime in when you can. Let’s link arms and tell the ones beside us “You got this mom 🙌🏼”. #ItTakesAVillage#MomLife#HomeschoolProbs#HomeschoolMamma

It's so difficult to relate certain views. From up high above a forest of coconut palms the texture is indescribably beautiful. I had to filter and embellish this just to show some of what I experienced from high up on a tropical mountain, looking down. If you look closely you can see the shapes of coco palms. I hope you get the idea. Truly magnificent.

Comment down below if you have shared a similar experience...
You are out with your children on a weekday. You are at the grocery store, minding your own business and picking up some supplies for the week ahead.
Someone notices you and your kids and asks why they are not in school. -
After explaining that you homeschool, this person goes on to QUIZ your children! What’s 6x4? What is the capitol of city of Ontario? How do you spell....
I shared my experience with this situation in my blog today - link to our website is in the bio or just check out www.acoateslife.com
Share my blog post if you have experienced this and want to get the word out that it is not ok to quiz children in the grocery store!
