WEEKEND MESSAGE RECAP // This weekend we learned how to pray when we are sorrowful, when we sense danger, and in our disappointment. A key thing I have learned since coming to Celebrate Recovery is being able to recognize when I am actually experiencing one of these emotions! I know it might sound strange, but I was so disconnected from my feelings that I did not always notice when I was turning to other things than Jesus. As I began to navigate my full range of emotions, I saw dysfunctional patterns of coping that frankly, surprised me. I am so grateful that because of Celebrate Recovery I am more quick to recognize when I am sad, scared or disappointed. When I know where I am emotionally, I can intentionally lean into Him in my moment of need. Thankfully, my heart is always safest with Him.
Being in the family of Christ through salvation, means that we are all family. We praise the same Father. We are no longer alone or rejected. The Spirit of full acceptance, to hear it and to know it are 2 different things. To bridge that gap, is to let the word of God transform your thinking by renewing your mind with the Word of God. (Romans 12:2) 👉🏻 Do you question your value at times? I encourage you to remind yourself that you are now in the family of God. You are good enough! ❤️
“And you did not receive the “spirit of religious duty,” leading you back into the fear of never being good enough. But you have received the “Spirit of full acceptance,” enfolding you into the family of God. And you will never feel orphaned, for as he rises up within us, our spirits join him in saying the words of tender affection, “Beloved Father!””
Romans 8:15 TPT
Your presence releases a fragrance so pleasing— over and over poured out. For your lovely name is “Flowing Oil.” No wonder the brides-to-be adore you.

YES // Someday when I am standing before Jesus, He is not going to ask to see my bank statements or my 401K. He will not care what area I ended up living in or how many square feet my house had. I would like to be in His presence that day when He asks what I've done to advance His Kingdom and point to a mountain where a line of people stretch out as far as the eye can see and say...
"See all those people over there? I think I may have had some involvement with there being here today. That is, I shared my story in my open share groups with a few, I opened up my heart and showed my soul to some, and to others I revealed the darkness of my life at my step study groups. For others I simply asked, "How can I help you?" I am blessed by the healing I witnessed by the seeds I planted, but in most cases I'm not sure how I helped. I just said Yes when You asked me to do something.”
Disappointments are inevitable, but failure, with God, is impossible. For we truly can’t be defeated. Even in death, we have eternal victory through Him. When we expect, instead of worry, then we can live with a heart full of hope. When we anticipate the best, instead of the worst, we can live faith-filled every day. 👉🏻 How is your outlook? It may be something to surrender to God every moment, but as you do that, you’ll continue to grow. ❤️
“He alone is my safe place; his wrap-around presence always protects me. For he is my champion defender; there’s no risk of failure with God. So why would I let worry paralyze me, even when troubles multiply around me?”
Psalms 62:2 TPT
God strengthens us in the journey. We take that step when we feel called. Then, He sustains and equips us as He teaches us along the way. Abraham believed God when He said He would give him a child in their late age. He knew God would do what He said He would do. There was a journey to be had ahead as Sarah’s womb was considered dead. Nevertheless, they believed Him at His Word and God was faithful. 👉🏻 What are you believing for? Your journey may look a little different as Sarah’s did when she was pregnant and had been barren, but God is faithful and now their story of faith still encourages us today. “Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.”
Romans 4:20-21 NIV
You’re up against far more than you can handle on your own.
Take all the help you can get, every weapon God has issued, so that when it’s all over but the shouting you’ll still be on your feet.
Truth, righteousness, peace, faith, and salvation are more than words.
Learn how to apply them. You’ll need them throughout your life.
God’s Word is an indispensable weapon. In the same way, prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare.
Pray hard and long.
Pray for your brothers and sisters.
Keep your eyes open. Keep each other’s spirits up so that no one falls behind or drops out.

Bittersweet moments like getting to love up on this new babe and see his sweet momma while visiting with a grandma who’s entered end stage hospice.
They say you can’t truly appreciate the light without the dark. This year I’ve experienced a lot of both.
In therapy this week I commented, “I think I’m depressed, but I’m also just annoyed a lot.”
Her reply, “depression often is annoyance. You’ve had a lot going on and some of it is very sad. Be annoyed, be sad, it’s grief.”
I finally finished a photography/poetry project I started over 3 years ago. At the time I didn’t know what I would do with the images. This fall, I realized they’d been waiting for me to experience the emotions needed to put a voice of experience with them.

Let our character speak louder than anything temporary. Let our actions speak louder than our words. Just as this scripture puts it, charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting. But someone who honors, fears, and loves the Lord first and foremost above anything vain, shall be praised. 👉🏻 In today’s society, in whichever way, it’s challenging to not be caught up in the hype of appearing perfect and popular. But when we allow ourselves to become so distracted from the depth of His Word, something more shallow will take its place. Pay attention to what takes precedence in your mind today and know you are so loved by Him. ❤️
“Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.”
Proverbs 31:30 NIV
FREEDOM STORY // “James 5:16 states - ‘Therefore, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.’ Once I got all that stuff off my chest I felt light as a feather. One of the things that I love the most about Celebrate Recovery is that it is really just part of the sanctification process that everybody goes through as Christians. To me this means everybody should be taking these steps. It will help anyone grow in there walk with God. Plus, the truth is that we all have issues. We were born into them. And it is refreshing to just admit it and work on them. Jesus has shown up big time in my life. I don’t want to take this lightly. I have seen Him come through time after time and He has given me too much evidence to ignore Him. The God that pulled me out of something that there was no way out of, is the same God can resolve any of my issues. At Celebrate Recovery you can find hope and healing. We are not afraid to talk about Jesus here and you do not have to go through life on your own. Let Jesus be Ruler of your life and let Celebrate Recovery help by giving you tools to keep you in that love, joy and freedom.” - Bruce S.

Such weight these words carry when they are needed. This scripture is a favorite. Not only because it just sounds great, but because it is so true. When the light at the tunnel looks bleak or you don’t have the immediate answers for a looming problem...one thing is for sure, with God, you will not fall. He has won the eternal battle. And every morning when you arise, God has been waiting for you. Because of Jesus’s sacrifice, we are never alone. He will make a way. ❤️
“God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day.”
Psalm 46:5 NIV
Then I hear whispering behind my back:
“There goes old ‘Danger-Everywhere.’
Shut him up! Report him!”
Old friends watch, hoping I’ll fall flat on my face:
“One misstep and we’ll have him.
We’ll get rid of him for good!”
But God, a most fierce warrior, is at my side.
Those who are after me will be sent sprawling
Slapstick buffoons falling all over themselves,
a spectacle of humiliation no one will ever forget.

Nothing in vain. As Christians, we can go through difficult trials and it can be beautiful regardless of the outcome! God has His beautiful way of creating endurance and perseverance in our character when we seek Him in the midst of life’s chaos. “So let it grow.” Let this season teach you what only this season could do. For nothing is in vain when we rely on Him. ❤️ I encourage you to look at this season you are in and ask God what can be taught from it. He is longing to share with you. “Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.”
James 1:2-4 NLT

We know we’re guilty.
We’ve lived bad lives,
but do something, God.
Do it for your sake!
Time and time again we’ve betrayed you.
No doubt about it—we’ve sinned against you.
Hope of Israel! Our only hope!
Israel’s last chance in this trouble!
Why are you acting like a tourist,
taking in the sights,
here today and gone tomorrow?
Why do you just stand there and stare,
like someone who doesn’t know
what to do in a crisis?
But God, you are, in fact, here, here with us!
You know who we are—you named us!
Don’t leave us in the lurch.

WEEKEND MESSAGE RECAP // Steps to Success: Keep your perspective. Pursue peace. Pray about everything. Renew your minds. Follow your models.
Paul equips us in Philippians with practical steps in order to be successful at living lives worthy of the Gospel. Before joining Celebrate Recovery, I was ill-equipped. I spent most of my time praying for others to change and I would tell God how to do everything, because I thought I knew best. I was rarely authentic about how I felt as I was out of touch with myself from spending all my time looking at others. I would become disappointed and lose faith in Him when circumstances seemed to stay the same or even appear opposite to what I had petitioned. Today, I can share that my awareness of my current state has expanded beyond angry, happy, or sad. I am able to pray for myself and others. I spend more time in prayer and meditation on what I need to surrender so I can be more like Jesus. “...taking as Jesus did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it. Trusting that You will make all things right, if I surrender to Your will.” (excerpt from Serenity Prayer)
Brothers and Sisters, we ALL awoke this morning to a hard and challenging life. I'm thinking of all the conversations I've had just in the last week w/ friends and family we love and respect.... loss of jobs, questions of identity and worth, difficulty dealing with maturing teenagers, physical ailments that require us to drive States away to try and find answers, financial burdens, separation from spouses, intense conflict with family, continual scans for cancer...... None of these went away overnight, and they very well might persist for awhile yet.... BUT
My prayer for all of us is that we might learn to submit ALL we have to Christ, not just because He's stronger than us... but because He is wise and good and loves us better than we love ourselves. I pray we might set Him before our minds today as our Shepherd and portion...that our thoughts would be filled and impressed upon with the great mystery of His redeeming love. In a word, that we might live a life of Faith in the Son of God.
"One thing is needful: to have our hearts united to the Lord in humble faith; to set Him always before us; to rejoice in Him as our Shepherd and our portion; to submit to all His appointments, not of necessity, because He is stronger than we, but with a cheerful acquiescence, because He is wise and good, and loves us better than we do ourselves; to feed upon His truth; to have our understandings, wills, affections, imaginations, memory, all filled and impressed with the great mysteries of redeeming love; to do all for Him, to receive all from Him, to find all in Him. I have mentioned many things, but they are all comprised in one, a life of faith in the Son of God." - John Newton, 1779

In our human state, we grow weary. But God, He never tarries. He understands us more than we could comprehend. When we ask, He gives us power and strength. He helps us to be strong when we are weak. Oh where would we be without Him? He moves mountains and yet, is so near to us. 👉🏻 Tag a friend who is in need of this encouragement today. ❤️
“Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding. He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless.”
Isaiah 40:28-29 NLT
You are worth it. You are valuable. He cares about the SMALLEST detail of your life. When life’s outcome becomes uncertain, know and trust that He is here with you and beside you. He isn’t only a miracle working God, but He is first and foremost, a relational God. You’re not alone. ❤️ “You can buy two sparrows for only a copper coin, yet not even one sparrow falls from its nest without the knowledge of your Father. Aren’t you worth much more to God than many sparrows? So don’t worry. For your Father cares deeply about even the smallest detail of your life.”
Matthew 10:29-31 TPT
After 25 years of reading this scripture I still see something new. The “weakness” that the Holy Spirit addresses could merely be to have the hope in what we are not able to see because we are overwhelmed by our circumstances. #HopeForToday #Advent
DINNER TONIGHT! // Please join us for dinner after Saturday night church! Tonight we are meeting at California Chicken Cafe in Canoga Park. It's always great to spend time connecting with your forever family. See you there around 7:30pm!
Today, no matter what you face, you have HOPE. Hope because Jesus endured the worst suffering for us that we might have life. Hope because His death gives today purpose. Hope because this is temporary. #hopefortoday
When true repentance occurs, God softens our hearts. This passage below truly depicts a heart of transformation. 👉🏻 If anything is holding you in anger, bitterness, or resentment...consider asking God what it is that you haven’t been trusting Him with. He desires to help us. ❤️
“I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh.”
Ezekiel 11:19 NIV
Staying on track with healthy meals is a priority of mine. I like to find shortcuts and time saving ways to make a meal tasty and not spend a lot of time in the kitchen on a weeknight.
This week made ahead turkey burgers, fermented cabbage made a number of jars back when I found a big cabbage at the farmers market, wild rice I precooked and had waiting for a dish. I also love finding things ready made such as frozen cubed avocado, which was great for the sauce for the pre spiralized zucchini. These all helped me out tremendously!
While at the organic food market this week I saw some lemongrass paste which I’ll be sure to add to my Thai Curry Soup on the menu for the upcoming week. I also found these handy little all-in-one packets. Hmmm...hoping to use pre shredded chicken with those, and add some chopped veggies like broccoli, celery and carrots.
For a snack I used the spice blend I’d made up from the How Not to Die cookbook. It’s delicious on popcorn with just a little more nutritional yeast than what’s already included in the blend.
How about you? What kind of shortcuts did you use this past week, or are there some you’re going to try? Let me know in the comments. 😊
I ❤️❤️❤️ this quote that I recently came across by theologian and novelist, Dorothy Sayers.
I also came across this question, which I'm curious to know your thoughts on: How does your faith relate to your work?
Share below! 😊
Have you ever gossiped or said anything negative? (We all raise our hands!🙋🏼♀️) We, as humans, fail in many areas. The most talked about in the Bible is the topic of our words. If we are able to control our words better, then how much better can we control everything else? 👉🏻Since we are always looking to Christ to become more like Him, how can we begin to change the negative words we speak? Is it tied to a belief? Is it tied to a lack of trust stemming from insecurities? “We all fail in many areas, but especially with our words. Yet if we’re able to bridle the words we say we are powerful enough to control ourselves in every way, and that means our character is mature and fully developed.”
James (Jacob) 3:2 TPT
Pastor Dre, we are so blessed to be supported by you and our church leadership! Thank you for sharing our passion and communicating the radicle transformation that happens through Celebrate Recovery! @dreisageek @rockypeakchurch
One of the most fearful things with loving others, is not being loved in return. Jesus didn’t walk this earth in that fear. He led the way with generous love. He didn’t give to get it in return, He freely loved. He is Hope. 👉🏻 Do you love only for it to be retuned? Or do you love to purely give it so that they can simply experience and know it? “If I were to donate everything I own to the poor, or if I were to sacrifice myself to be burned as a martyr, and have no love, then I gain nothing. Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous. Love is not boastful. Love is not proud.”
1 Corinthians 13:3-4 FBV
