Construction began but was halted in the inital stages in early 2016, due to unforseen issues and a change of personal circumstances of the vendor. The site has remained disused / derelict ever since and removal of the work undertaken is now due to take place, the site will be cleared. The vendor is mindful that existing plans will not appeal to everyone even though a unique aspect of the design is the large T shaped feature driveway (full plans are available). Final inspection due on Monday! We did our PCI two weeks ago and let's just say the painting was of a poor standard.
Internal wall painting cost us over $8k so surely you'd think it would be done right but together with our independent inspector we left tape everywhere on spots to be fixed. The main bedroom and ensuite ceilings were very patchy, the alfresco ceiling definitely didn't have enough coats nor did the main living/dining area ceiling and other sections. I could still see pencil scribble marks from when the electricians were obviously marking up for downlights !! All of the internal door frames needed another coat of paint plus a few more spots in every room. 3 coats throughout? I don't think so! And this was apparently finished?! .
The front door was a disappointment. Finally went in and we were excited to see it, but they didn't sand it properly, the finish wasn't great, a different wood was used around the trim of door frame and the wrong putty colour used. Plus 3 of the 6 panels of glass had the translucent finish scratched. This cost us extra and the door in total with handle etc was a $2,400 item on our contract so you'd expect better.
Then there were other minor things to be finished/fixed. .
On a brighter note, our kitchen window finally went in and our construction manager has been great to deal with, organising a tiler to go back and add more subway tiles to our kitchen splashback which we hadn't included originally. .
I haven't been to the house in two weeks, since PCI, so here's hoping that everything in our report is completed by Monday and the painters don't do another rush job 🤞🤞 Then I can organise final payment and maybe handover. To be continued ...
