TREE IS UP 🎄 First Christmas in my own home 💫 Also realised my tiny tree is the same height as me, woo! 🙈
Most of the tree decorations are from @newbankgardencentre
which was literally a life saver in terms of being the only place doing purple baubles! First time I visited the store I was completely overwhelmed by the amount of choice & kept changing my mind about my colour scheme. Finally decided on purple, silver & white to match my lounge & now I’m super happy with it 💜
We’re leaving CA a week from today and we’re not sure when we’ll return. Renting our tiny house went so well this summer that we want to do it again, to see how things go through the winter season. We’ll spend some time in NC with family and we’re hoping to go to Europe for a few months afterwards, but at this point all we have booked are our flights to NC next Sunday.
Honestly, it all feels so crazy sometimes—not knowing exactly where we’ll be next year or when we’ll return. My stomach churns with the uncertainty of it all but my heart skips a beat with excitement and anticipation.
Next year, we hope to build a second tiny house and set it in another beautiful spot— a home that’s even better than this one, and possibly one that’s more mobile, too. Then we’ll have two homes, in two beautiful places, to live in when we want to and to bring in some $$ while we travel. If all goes well, we’ll probably do it again. We dream of building a shangri-la of our own someday, of buying a nice plot of land and moving all the homes there and creating a retreat space for ourselves and to share with others. We’re just getting started, one step at a time...
There she is.
She’s not a looker. I believe in her though. I’m ready to unlock her potential.
About a year ago, with help from my dad, I invested in her future, as well as my own, and moved myself and two kiddos in. We knew it would be a large undertaking to get her where we needed and wanted her to be. The basement had large amounts of water damage, a little mold, and the foundation was buckling. Most of the house has not been updated or replaced since the 1950’s when it was built, including single pane windows, original hardwoods that need some love, dated cabinetry in the closed-off kitchen, cracked siding, non-functional fireplace.
To date, we have regraded the ground around the house to improve water damage, installed steel beams along the cracked basement wall, jacked up concrete along the perimeter of the basement and implanted a sump pump system, updated the electric panel, and put some temporary vinyl in the kitchen (the cracked tiles were stubbing little toes). All of these projects were taken on by us, family, and friends. A concrete company came in and poured an expanded driveway.
Most of these projects have only been able to be tackled on weekends. Everyone involved works full time. The kids have school and extracurriculars. Life doesn’t stop for a home remodel. There is still so much to do, but we are making a dent. One step at a time! I’m so excited to document this journey and share all of the hard work we’re doing. Thanks for joining me!

“I’ve never seen a lady contractor.” - The sweet old man next door while he stares at me carrying some tools inside.
I by no means consider myself a contractor or a carpenter or even very handy for that matter. But I do know my way around a chop saw. .
Where my DIY, trade, boss, and badass ladies at? 🙋🏻♀️
The weather people here in VA seriously underestimated the snowfall. Oh well... guess I’ll just have to stay in and relax one more day. My Christmas Home Tour is on the blog today. Stop by and check out how we decorated our home this year. #ontheblog #christmasdecor #planandglam
Landon asked Santa for LEGO’s and Ryder asked him for all the dinosaurs. 🎅🏻
The great room is a work in progress. I’ve still got the two-toned couch 😂—still have to wait another 6 weeks 🤦🏻♀️ and I just can’t take finding the right throw pillows seriously with the distracting corner piece. I did, however, find the perfect rug. This rug is the anchor of my home. I have 4 other rugs that are 5’ x 7’ or larger on the first floor which were purchased before I really knew what style I was going for. Then I spent over a month wondering how I would ever find a rug to tie in my jute natural fiber rug with the grayish blue rugs in the kitchen area (this open concept thing isn’t easy when it comes to decorating!). And then I saw this @homegoods
! Part gray, cream, tan and blue! It pulled the entire first floor together! Now that is a design win 🙌🏻
We haven’t yet decided on a wood or ottoman coffee table. We are using the pictures ottoman in the mean time. We did get a free (I love anything free) coffee table we will use temporarily that we are refinishing (swipe to see) to better compliment the room. Ultimately, the table/ottoman will be a square rather than rectangle. We will probably do woven wood shades. I’m just nervous to order them and make it official. Anyone recommend blinds vs shades?

It's six months since I picked my keys up! When I did my three month progress, this is where I was:
Rewire, new boiler, new rads upstairs, porch demolished, garden cleared, bathroom gutted, master bedroom stripped and skimmed, loads of repointing and brickwork, stairs repaired, landing skimmed, new windows and external doors, stonework painted outside.
Swipe to see where I am up to at six months.
Even more repointing and brickwork to the side. Master bedroom: floor repaired, new skirting boards, painted, carpeted. Spare bedroom: stripped and plaster repaired, carpeted. Other spare bedroom and hallway: no change. Stairs have been stripped, sanded and painted. Bathroom has been plastered, tiled, the suite is in.
Downstairs, the only change is taking the dining room back to brick. I got a skip but the garden is filling up again 😄 The biggest change is that I've moved in!! Even if it's just one room at the moment.
What's next... as soon as I can find a scaffolder, the new roof will start, and then I can finish the bathroom. I've got lots of painting to do upstairs. The hallway is being plastered next week. Then it's the living room. Dining room and kitchen I need to really save up for. It's starting to feel like a home, looking forward to the next three months!

Clean house, clean dog. I wonder how long that will last.
