As of this morning, the #californiawildfire
that hit Paradise, CA is the worst/most devastating/deadliest wildfire in state history. Current count is at ~44 deaths, but hundreds still missing. So, a moment for this PSA!
posted a blog and IG story about how to clean your air at home without an air purifier. It should still be live in their story, but if you are a lazy bean like me and need access to info fast, I have screenshots of their advice and it’s👌! Below, I will explain what they said:
• Make a good seal using tape. This will ensure all the air passing through your home fan (box fan, other portable fan, whatever you have) will get filtered.
• Masks rated N95 will protect you against smoke pollution, not just particles. (FYI: currently sold out in all Bay Area stores, but I bet not air filters!) Other info I have learned this morning: single strap masks (the thin disposable kind) and surgical masks *will not* protect you from the fire pollution. Smoke inhalation can stay in our lungs for up to 12 years, so stay healthy ✌️
We were on our way home from Santa Cruz when we learned of the fire. Air conditions in the Bay Area have been worse than Beijing’s for the past week. #sparetheair
policies are in place until Friday.
