“It's conflict and it's compromise, and it's just... it's new every time. It's brand new every night. It's very, very exciting!” - Sebastian, La La Land
In an era where ‘beats’ are the most sought after element in music, the classical Jazz has still managed to hold its own to some extent. Unfortunately, it is a dying breed. A place that keeps it alive and still worships all forms of it, however, is perhaps the most classical city of all time - New Orleans.
Jazz is one of the elements NOLA is synonymous with and if you have been to NOLA, you would agree that it’s unlike any other city in the world. It is original and it is unique. The same applies to jazz to some extent, as Ryan Gosling’s character rightly said in La La Land. Not sure how many of you’ll have actually watched the movie, but I absolutely loved it. I had 3 specific reasons to watch it - I follow the director’s movies, Emma Stone and Jazz.
The way modern music is shaped up at the moment, dominated by synthesized sounds, modulated voices - there is a very strong sense of fake ness. But these are just my opinions. Pure music pre-dominantly ceases to exist in current times, although there are still some artists that keep it alive. I’ll admit that jazz is an acquired taste, but I’d recommend everyone to surely try it out a couple of times. It soothes my mind and brings me sheer joy. Although the long tracks sometimes do run the risk of being slightly boring. That is where the acquired taste comes into the picture.
