A few posts back I got a bit angsty and posted a whole bunch of questions I had about how I interact with social media. Feel free to read, my honest reflections below, or not! And if this sparks a question or conversation topic of your own, I want to hear it!
Do I let it become a time-sucking void that distracts me from other constructive activities?.......Yes and no. I’m working to limit mindless scrolling. I love seeing what friends and family are up to and following people who use this platform to educate others (history, current events, other cultures) and start great conversations. I want to start being more intentional about sharing more about the places I visit — like Wednesday “Guess the Country” in my stories.
Why do I use Instagram and include hashtags? .......... I’ve always loved Instagram because it’s streamlined. I love taking pictures, so Instagram has been a great creative outlet and source of inspiration! I think the hashtag part is more complicated. Hashtags are cool because they connect you to different like-minded communities. But, to be honest, there’s also that part about seeking validation that I posted a cool photo and I want more people to see it and like it. That’s a balance I need to work on.
Am I honest in how I talk about my life? ........ First, I want to thank all the people who have taken the time to tell me how much they loved my travel photos! I have been hesitant to share sometimes because I never want to brag about the places I get to visit or things I’m doing. I also struggle to know how much to talk about the reason I get to travel so much — my job. But more on that sometime in the next couple of weeks... 🌍
What about you? Do you ask yourself any of these same questions? I’d be curious to hear your thoughts!
