A little while back I saw an Astro shot by @dereksturmanphotography
that inspired me to go out and find my own gnarled and twisted Milky Way tree shot. So I set out one day driving the roads of Zion, hitting every pullout along the way and scanned for that perfect tree. Finally I saw it, far off in the distance what appeared to be a worthy contender! So I grabbed my bag and hiked up to it and it was even more gnarled and beautiful than I could have dreamt of! I set about to finding compositions for sunset and Astro as well, and while sunset comps were easy enough (see my previous post) the astro shots were proving to be much more difficult. I’ve been back twice now to shoot Astro and though it wasn’t easy Ive walked away with plenty of shots I love! MISSION ACCOMPLISHED....or so I thought. I came across another post by @dereksturmanphotography
and it was then that I realized.....I found the very same tree he did 🤦🏼♂️😂 Needless to say the search continues!
Sometimes there's changes that need to be made, it takes us to be humble and accept that it's the Lord's will✨

Treasure hunt... This is a quote from one of the original settlers of Block 70 in Salt Lake City. Can you find the plaque when you come to Busker Fest on Friday?
"Now how would you feel if you had spent five months in the mountains, in the midst of trouble and danger and trials. How would you feel when you got first into sight of the promised land? It was the promised land to them, and they saw the peaks and the beautiful valley, the salt lake, that looked like a lake of silver, and they said 'WHAT A BEAUTIFUL SCENE IS THIS!'" ~ Hiram Clawson
With summer quickly approaching its close comes the excitement for college football, crisper nights, gallons of pumpkin spice drinks, and trees erupting in color.
After getting out of my truck to get a better look at yesterday's rattlesnake I heard and then saw reptilian movement off to my right. I got a glimpse of a long black and white tail quickly disappearing under sagebrush and wondered if I had just seen my lifer Long-nosed Leopard Lizard. I tracked down the lightening-fast lizard to confirm my initial impression. I had read that these guys run to and hide in shade with dappled sunlight at the base of bushes to camouflage themselves. Now I know. Their patterns work well in such conditions. I like that this image captures that behavior. This one was about 12" (300mm) long, including the tail.
The chances that we'd meet and speak.
Finding balance is important.
With school coming soon and Autumn and all its festivals I look forward mostly to chilly hikes. Late night pan dulce with chocolate de abuelita. Tamales. Hot coffee on a cold night. Jackets and sweaters that fit just right.
Hope I meet people to share these experiences with.

I did a tracking jump, no wingsuit on. I had no idea what was going on ask @garrenedginton
These two are growing up so fast I can’t keep up, sometimes parenting can be exhausting and monotonous but I’ve been trying to really live the moment with them and relish it as time changes so quickly.
Not many backpacking buddies will abandon their dinner at camp just to run up a scree field to the top of a mountain, just because the vantage point ‘could be better.’ And then subsequently scramble back down in the dark because you only grabbed your camera and not your headlamp.
Indian Hills Middle School Open House 📚
Congratulations to the Canyon School District community on the completed renovation of the Indian Hills Middle School! Yesterday’s ribbon-cutting brought families, students, builders, staff and teachers together to tour the finished campus.
The renovation entailed a new entrance, commons area, lunch area, library, updated safety measures and class rooms. It also included the expansion of a new wing with six new classrooms and collaboration spaces.
The talented team included Greta Anderson, Hana Wright, Lynn Attwood, Jade Field, Angela Raymond, Sydnie Young, Troy Cook, Abe Nielsen and Matt Payne.
Who else is ready for cooler weather? But could fall just roll over into winter?
I was recently told by someone they call this feature Frankenstein’s Forehead. I didn’t give it much thought until I was here last week scouting new compositions and I suddenly saw it! I’ve always known it as the Streaked Wall but all I see now is Frankenstein’s Forehead haha! 📷 @_christianloya
Have you ever heard of verju? On the farm there is a wine vineyard, and if it's a good crop year like this one, we have the ability to make this product! We drop about half of the unripe wine grapes and press out the juices to create essentially a grape vinegar. It's amazing 🍇🍇
Thank goodness for storm fronts and being able to actually breathe clean air then finally see the mountains 🙌🙌
