Happy Memorial Day Weekend! Since Memorial Day has always seemed like the unofficial beginning of summer to me, I started thinking of my favorite things about summers growing up in Florida. One thing I thought of is when we would chase down the ice cream truck on our banana seat bikes with the flower power stickers, yelling “Icecream Man, stop!” When he heard us over the jangly music box tune blasting from his truck, he’d stop and we’d pull up, out of breath, sweaty coins in our fists, ready to choose our treats. My friend Marybeth Duchano and her little sister Julie usually picked fudgesicles, which they inexplicably called ‘fudgicles’. I liked screwballs, because of the frozen gum ball at the bottom of the plastic cone. You don’t see ice cream trucks rolling through the neighborhood anymore. They usually park at parks where t-ball and soccer games are going on though. Did you have a favorite ice cream truck treat?
