Empty trails leading to wide open desert and new adventures.... it’s what we are asking for for Christmas.
There is so much medicine in sunshine & fresh air. 🌬
Thank you to everyone who came out to our last book signing over the weekend—we loved chatting with you all!! We’re starting to wind down this week before heading off to spend some quality time with family at the end of the week. Hope you’re all taking some time to reset, even if it’s just a few minutes to watch the sunset. 🌵✨
My fifteenth time at @joshuatreenps
in the span of two years. This park does not get old! Successfully daytripped to JTNP from Las Vegas for the @nationalparkgeek
meetup yesterday. It took me three hours each way, made a big loop from Henderson through Searchlight, and returned via Mojave National Preserve and Nipton. Looking forward to repeat this few more times next year! Which park is your most visited spot? #theweekender #weekendwarrior #ilovejoshuatree #nationalparkgeek
Tis the season! I love how this commission of prints turned out! Joshua Tree as a diptych, custom framed in gold. Interested in commissioning me to make a piece for your home or office? Get in touch! Hello@wildercalifornia.com
I love seeing the desert shift through the seasons (so very different from the seasons I grew up with on the east coast). Late afternoon hikes are the reset I’ve needed lately to feel re-energized after long yet exciting days designing for our new inn in Tucson. Thank you to @thefryecompany
for keeping me warm during these hikes in this gorgeous jacket, and the nicest hiking boots I’ve ever had. (The boots and sweater I’m wearing are both featured in FRYE’s Holiday Gift Guide.) #InMyFRYE #ad
Layer after layer right before my eyes. I climbed the mountain, I was afraid of looking down. So instead I looked up. And there it was, the moment that changed my life. ↠
Don’t waste your time on things that don’t mean anything to you. Spend your time where you feel alive. Be with people who make you feel good. Go where there are no words, and all you can do is be present in the real world. Don’t let your own fear get the better of you. Be free! You can. ↠
Our favorite morning pastime in the desert.
Make a delicious cup of coffee. Climb up a massive boulder pile, and sit and sip.
The original JT dream house 🌵
Sometimes we say that the sky is our favorite artist—just look at the magic it creates every day, and every night. Always different, always special. 🌅 (check our stories for a video of last night’s sunset, it was especially beautiful ✨)
Surprised it took me this long to get on Gunsmoke! Here’s Nicole showing off her nifty heel hook beta and me near the middle crimpy section #gunsmoke #joshuatree #barkerdam
Monday always feels a little more bearable after a weekend full of this. We camped in below freezing temperatures, and hiked a new trail in our favorite park. Doesn’t get much better!
Been finding myself on desert trails a lot these days! 👣👣 Super Hike Tuesday kicked off on Election Day to curb the anxiety of that day and it went so well it has turned into a weekly ritual for John and I. We leave the pup at home (sorry Rusty!) and hit the trail for a long, 6+ mile, hike in the NP or a local nature preserve. I’m pretty stoked to share these adventures with y’all and hopefully inspire some of your own epic hikes 👣👣
A couple weeks ago @spwakeboard
and I went to @joshuatreenps
in search for Eagle Cliff mine. After wondering around for a couple hours we found our way to the cabin built right into the rock. Originally called Black Eagle Mine it was discovered by Robert Muir on May 27, 1895. Then Bill Keys took over the mine who kept producing ore until the early 1930’s!!! Now it’s one of Joshua Tree’s best kept secret. Well worth the hike and hunt. #joshuatree #ilovejoshuatree #eaglecliffmine #Mojavedesert #hiking

! Loving the modern look combines with the Joshua Tree landscape 😻. You can shop this Joshua Tree canvas in the Wilder California ship via @minted.
square crop of a new 2x3ft painting inspired by a recent trip to the desert 🌞 enjoying the gestural quality of oil pastel on acrylic lately #horizonlines
“The pace of our daily lives is increasingly misaligned with the pace of childhood.” .
Currently reading “Simplicity Parenting” which contains this quote that I’ve observed to be so true. Before I had A, I was excited by the thought of all of the classes I would sign her up for (“Music class as soon as she turns six months!” etc.) and the things I would have her do... basically how I would manage her days. But now I’m starting to feel more like, “Nah, how about you just go play on some rocks.” 😅
We shared some of our holiday traditions with @anthropologie
like adding string lights to our favorite cactus, and started some new ones like cooking our meal over the campfire. 🥘 Thank you @anthropologie
for this special evening, for capturing the moment, and for making our moms tear up. ✨ #homefortheholidays #myanthropologie
Mornings and sunset have taken the place of our weekends lately—they offer a quick reset before getting back to work on our biggest project yet. 🌅
Morning reset. ☕️ ✨ ps - who’s in Joshua Tree this weekend?! We’ll be at @shop_onthe_mesa
from 10-4 tomorrow with signed books and Joshua Tree bandanas hand dyed by @apprvl
! Come say hi 👋🏻
After the bulk of the day when we've worked the hardest, sunset is our reminder to head back outside. Tonight we filled up a thermos with wine and felt the temperature dip as the sun lowered—jacket weather is definitely here @eddiebauer. #EddieBauerHolidayAdventure #EBContributor
The pic so nice I’ve posted it twice. Had an amazing time in Joshua Tree last weekend and have been reminiscing about it since. The park has a vibe to it that just draws me in. There is something about the open land and solitude that is so appealing. The clouds last weekend didn’t want to cooperate unfortunately but I have memories of every time I’ve ever visited.
