I bought this book several years ago in an airport in London while waiting for the long flight back to the states, this was at the beginning of my journey towards becoming what many would call a “fitness entrepreneur”. Once I bought it I think it took me 5 hours to actually close it for good because I couldn’t stop reading it, it was filled with absolute gold.
My 3 biggest takeaways
1. Part 1: People -Don’t take notions for an answer, use your insight while listening and observing aggressively, and another persons ego may be your biggest ally if you know how to utilize it well. Always make a memorable first impression, people don’t forget how you made them feel.
2. Part 2: Sales and Negotiation - selling is an integral part of life, we market/advertise ourselves to convince people we are cool, funny, sexy, worth their time in various ways. Stop pursuing instant gratification and focus more on persistence because the odds are pretty simple “if your pretty good, you’re probably going to fail half the time. Rejection comes with the territory”. Know your product, Believe in your product, and sell with enthusiasm.
3. Part 3: Running a business - Commit (early on) to quality. Hire the best to teach you what you don’t know. Mark says if he had a formula for growth it would be “start with the best, learn from the best, expand slowly and solidify our position, then horizontally diversify our expertise”. Nuff said. Don’t get held up by structure and systems, be flexible in your business design to leave plenty room for innovation
My overall rating
Why: Mark was known as the “most powerful man in sport” after he founded IMG. His commitment to his company and the clients they serve showed me that I wanted to create a PT business with the same moral backbone as his. A business built around people and solving pain points in an innovative way is one that will always succeed, that is my ONE takeaway haha thanks again @jaypapasan
Who do I recommend this book to? Anyonestsrting a business for the money or the freedom. This will reframe your mindset to enhance results and QOL
