BULBUL CAN SING (2018) - REVIEW
conveys an elegant journey of Bulbul and her two closest friends with utmost sincerity.
It's a story of a girl named bulbul who is afraid to sing in front of an audience. Scared that she might fail at it.
It's a story of a guy named Suman who's constantly punished for the way he is. Judged by everyone because of his sexuality.
It's a story of a girl named Bonnie who believes in love and friendship yet fails to manage the pressure.
The backdrop of this movie is very effortless yet gratifying at the same time. Every person can comprehend with the pain of these three teenagers. Constantly being judged by the society, how love and public display of emotion is still frowned upon and considered as a sin. How 3 innocent lives are destroyed over some old orthodox notion that love before marriage is a sin.
captures small and essential moments that happens in somebody's life. The feeling of first love, the gut wrenching feeling when bullied by your friends, the feeling when you're too shy too showcase your talent in front of everyone, the gut wrenching feeling when everything starts crumbling in front of you. She manages to capture all these moments merely by direction and impeccable scripting. Somewhere down the line the first half tends to become a bit sloggy but Rima das compensates it with these beautiful moments and direction.
The movie nonetheless ends on an alluring note and with a simple message that do what you want to do, let others judge. In the long run they don't matter.
