Laos craft beer scene is mostly concentrated in its capital, Vientiane🇱🇦 My favourite beer spot is definitely Le Patitoh. It's a little paradise with a good selection of homebrew beers. There is also an outdoor pool where you can have a swim 🐟 Really cool place to hang out.
At the time of my visit the beer menu consisted of: Pilsner Lager, Blonde Ale, Wheat Ale, Amber Ale, IPA and Stout.
I decided to taste their Pilsner, IPA and Stout. I'm pretty sure that instead of the three I ordered I was served the Blonde Ale, Amber Ale and Stout. The photo might even indicate it. I double-checked with the bartender but he insisted I got my choice. Well I don't want to doubt them but I think I trust my eyes and taste buds more than their word 🤭
▪️BLONDE ALE (supposedly Pilsner)
ALC 4.8%, IBU 10-15
👁️Pale, very slightly hazy, thin white head
👃Honey & flowers aroma
👅Sugar cane, lots of flowers and bit of fruit
My favourite one from the three brews. Lovely sweet and fruity ale, a bit watery but with great flavours. A good Blonde Ale but a terrible Pilsner😋
▪️AMBER ALE (supposedly IPA)
ALC 6%, IBU 25-30
👁️Light amber, clear, low white head
👃Not much on nose
👅Very watery, plain, very light taste of caramel malt, low bitterness.
Didn't enjoy this one. Wish I had gotten the IPA, oh well.
ALC 7%, IBU 30-35
👁️Dark Ruby, thin brownish head
👃Burnt brown sugar, cherry tobacco, not very intense aroma
👅Watery, more like an ale, light taste of dark chocolate, herbs, and hints of coffee.
Not bad on the palate but very thin body for stout. At least I got what I asked for 😉
