I will never get tired of talking about this breathtaking book, so it’s the perfect story to start my list of recommendations of Books set in diverse settings (non-Western Countries). Crystal Hana Kim’s “If You Leave Me” is a compelling & painful story of family, friendship & love, in a time of Civil War. Incredibly well written, this story hooks you in, as you follow the lives of multiple characters - across different points in their lives. A vivid portrayal of Korea after the separation, during the Civil War, & through times of political (& personal) unrest - this book will take your breath away. An often painful, and incredibly heartfelt read - the characters are real and flawed and sympathetic and captivating. I really really enjoyed this book, & can’t wait for more from this author! Reminiscent of literary powerhouses like Lisa See, Madeleine Thien, Khalid Hosseini, & Yaa Gyasi - Crystal Hana Kim is a writer to watch!

One of my favourite booktube channels! Breanne is absolutely the sweetest thing, she’s super funny and I love her insight into books and life. This channel also doubles as a plan with me (bullet journaling) where you get to see how talented and creative she is while inspiring you to get creating. Please give a local gal some love and subscribe! She also has a Instagram @callmeaftercoffee

To reread, or not to reread? That is the question. When you get the sequel to a book you enjoyed, but don’t remember, do you take the time to reread the first, or just jump in and hope it comes back to you? #bookstagram #advancedrederscopy #indigoemployee
I love this little Gift Bow Dress pattern from @leeandpearl

Closing down a bookstore is really weird. Spent a lot of time at Chapters studying and taking pictures and browsing.
Now it's derelict and empty.
The letters are down.
The shelves are empty or messy.
The books are being packed away.
It's nice to know that I had a place like this

Isn’t this just the cutest family photo you’ve ever seen?!🎄
’s newest novel, A Very Large Expanse of Sea, follows a sixteen-year-old muslim girl names Shirin, living in the year 2002. 2002, the year after 9/11. Shirin is no stranger to the cruelty of people, as she faces degrogitory comments, physical violence and outright rude comments. Because of this, Shirin has built up a seemingly impenetrable wall around her. That way, no one can get close to her. That way, she can’t be hurt.
After settling into her new school - as her family moves around frequently - Shirin meets a boy named Ocean, the first person who really wants to get to know her. This new friendship - or maybe it’s something more - scares Shirin, as she is not used to letting her guard down in fear of getting hurt, and she’s not sure if she can even let them down.
This story is heavily influenced by Mafi’s own life experiences. She said that this is the closest thing she’s written to an autobiographical novel, which makes me so angry at the world. I hate that Shirin was treated this way, and I hate the fact that Mafi was treated this way. I hate that Mafi was even able to write this, because it’s not fair. It’s absolutely heartbreaking, and I hope it’s a wakeup call to those who mistreat others who are just trying to live their own life authentically. This book is so real, and I hate that. They way Mafi writes Shirin’s inner dialogue and feelings expertly portrays how and why Shirin is so closed off. It is a survival mechanism, it the only way she can live her day to day life is to built up walls so thick, that Shirin fears she can never break them down to let someone in.
This book gave me the same feelings I felt while reading The Hate U Give. A Very Large Expanse of Sea is a five-star book for me, and now one of my new favourites. Please, pick up this book.

It’s a busy Saturday at the Kittredge Christmas tree lot. Kit is making the first delivery of the day, and Grace and Amelia Egghart are riding along. Amelia normally pesters Grace something fierce, and pecks her nose, but not today. Well, the lion shall lie down with the lamb, right!?
We quite literally found an elf on our shelf this morning, doesn’t he know this is a book shelf and not an elf shelf! Hope he doesn’t cause too much mischief today! 🎄📚
This was the first book that got me back into reading and inspired me to open up a book Instagram account. The Song of Achilles by @madeline.e.miller
I loved how she never really added any hints on the relationship of Achilles and Patroclus, and how she wrote about Achilles character. I also love Patroclus, and the relationship he had with both his father and his mother, how different it was. It’s definitely a must read. I also wrote a college essay about this story in my mythology class, while everyone else was writing an essay based on a movie, I think it was either the 300 or the Immortals. #bookstagrammer #booksandcoffee #bookstagram #bookish #bibliophile #booksofinstagram #indigo #indigoemployee #nostalgia
Ruthie is over the moon that her mother has invited her to accompany her to a Mother/Daughter Dinner at the Cincinnati Women’s Club. She has dressed very carefully in her best dress and matching coat. Doesn’t she look elegant?!
Ruthie’s dress pattern is by Bunnybear on Etsy and her coat pattern is @dollhousedesigns.
Both are 1930s inspired. The coat is supposed to be double breasted, but I forgot to make allowances for Ruthie’s slightly larger chest and waist measurements (she’s my chubster) so it wound up single breasted.
