Young athletes who are in their season and performing off ice training, need to perform low volume intense exercise. This only applys to those athletes who have been assessed properly and passed certain requirements. Low volume means low reps less sets higher weight. which will not fatigue the athletes but keep the strength they gained in the summer, there is no need for these youngsters to do any cardiovascular work beside what they are performing on ice. @kernelsorchardpark sandy did a retest on the fwb. The test consists of 10 minutes max calories. This is a great test to see a persons mental capacity, aerobic capacity and how much they are willing to work through a little bit of pain. In personalized programming we perform retests of certain workouts to make sure we are moving in the right direction fitness wise. When we first started, Sandy accomplished 73 calories in 10 mins, today she managed 96 cals. A big thing for me on this test for sandy was max rpm which was 68. This tells me she is developing more strength as this bike requires absolute strength and a great aerobic system. We train and then we test. Progression is the only thing that will keep people desiring more. When it comes to seeing results from exercise. Whether that is losing 30 pounds or trying to get a personal best lift in the clean and jerk. It comes down to lifestyle habits and energy levels. We all know when we have made poor food choices and lack of sleep how we feel, tired and lethargic. If we are feeling this way our bodies are not going to have the energy to get up and want to move, therefore the workout session will be missed and that is 1 less day to reaching the goal. My client Jai now does his belt squats without touching the bar. Why??? Because when he held onto the bar, he had a nasty habit of using it to squat deeper than his muscles could support. He would get the dreaded posterior pelvic tilt, aka "butt wink," which stressed his lower back. ________ But when he keeps his hands free and can't use the bar to pull himself up, he squats to a depth that his body can complete with good form using the proper muscles, and NO BACK PAIN! _________ Every client is unique and has different challenges.
