One of the smallest, yet most effective, things I’ve implemented in my life is having a morning routine. I’ve got a few small things I do every morning that set me up for the day ahead and make me feel like I’ve got my life together.
My current routine starts with planning my day. I like lists and schedules, so I have a note in my phone where I plan what time I’ll do everything I need to- 9.10am Breakfast, 9.40am Get ready, 9.55am Pack bag for work, 10.05am Leave for work etc. It might be excessive and people have definitely laughed at me, but I’m basically never late, so who’s the real winner?
One of my favourite parts of my morning is going for a walk or a run. I live right near the water, which means I get fresh air, beautiful mountain views, a decent workout and I do it all while listening to my favourite podcast or audiobook, so I get an education too.
Honestly, I’ve only started doing this one consistently in the last year or so (sorry Mum) – making my bed. I never really saw the point to it since I spend so much time in it when I’m home, but the simple act of arranging my pillows and folding my blanket at the end of the bed makes me feel like I am a Grown Up Adult who has her life together.
5-minute tidy-up is another simple but effective morning task that makes my life 800x easier. Nobody wants to clean their room when they get home at night, and my bedroom used to look like a bomb hit it (I’m not even exaggerating), but if I tidy for 5 minutes every day then it’s basically impossible to get it back to that state.
Finally, my favourite part of my routine- morning dance party! I blast Triple J or some dancey Spotify playlist and have a serious boogie while I make my breakfast and get ready for work. You can’t be moody when you’re shaking your booty. Fact.
