These white glazes have me all kinds of excited! I’m so pleased to finally introduce you to this smoky carbon trap white shino from @nanrothwell
. I’m hopeful that she’s making lots more pots in this quiet and classy glaze.
These carbon trap shinos do just what their name implies. They are able to grab carbon (smoke) from the kiln’s atmosphere and trap it in the glaze surface. A piece might be darker and smokier or it might have splashes and sprinkles of grey like this one. The magic happens secretly inside the kiln during firing and the potter has very little control, if any, over the outcome. One never knows what one will get. Either way, they are gorgeous!
