There could never be enough room for the list of anti-racist educators, revolutionaries, writers, activists and artists who have paved the way for us to do what we are doing now.
We really want to address something that has come up a lot lately and that is the idea that there is one special formula that can be applied to end racism & white supremacy once and for all - that there is one tailored approach that all of us should take, otherwise, our work is trash.
Don’t center white people at all, “Racism exists and it’s a white problem”, Sharing exclusively about African-lead initiatives is the only way to change the narrative, Be nicer, You’re too nice, You’re too gentle, You’re not gentle enough...
We get an unimaginable amount of unsolicited feedback about our work - how it should be done, how it shouldn’t be done, how we could reach more people, speculation as to why we’ve reached so many already.
We have noticed something happening in anti-racism conversations & across anti-racism platforms. It’s this idea that any single one of us could have the monopoly on the solution to address racism and white supremacy. •
Many find the need to put our stake in one camp or another - you’re either Malcom or Martin, right? •
Is there not room for acknowledging the legitimacy of a variety of models, approaches & methods to dismantle this violent, pervasive, deeply rooted beast?
No one has THE SOLE SOLUTION. There is far too much work to be done & these issues are far too complex for any one approach to be THE ONE.
