Many people, believe that because Mauritius is a luxury travel destination; it is unaffordable. Over the next few posts, I am going to dispel that myth, and show you why and how, it can be affordable for everyone.
Preban and I, have made 4 trips to Mauritius, over the last 6 years. Ever since we started our family, Mauritius seemed to be the ideal holiday destination. We’re often asked, why do we not consider another country. We have tried and we’ve returned to Mauritius; but that’s an instablog for another day. This isn’t a sponsored post, it’s just our honest view, about what we love about Mauritius.
1. The short 4 hour flight, from Johannesburg. Actually, the flight distance is short, from anywhere in South Africa. Short flights are preferable, when travelling with kids, for obvious reasons. And you will get to enjoy your holiday, from the moment you arrive, without having to recuperate, from tiresome jet-lag.
2. The convenience of not having to obtain a Visa. The Government of Mauritius, issues South Africans, with a Visa, at no additional cost. All you will require, is a valid South African passport.
3. The people are warm, welcoming and hospitable. From the staff at the airport, the drivers, and hotel staff; to the vendors in the bustling markets and the local residents. And they’re exceptionally helpful and friendly with kids too.
4. The FOOD, this would’ve been my first point, if you know us, you would know, that we delight in delicious cuisine. The hotels that we have been to, cater to your every need, and they have something for all palettes. When you venture out, nothing beats a chilled glass of Alouda from the local markets. I’ve found my favorite haunts, that serve up the best dhall puri, gateaux Pimente and farata (roti). The famous bowl renverser and boulet (dim sum, served in a flavorful broth) are a must try too. Mauritius is a cultural melting pot. Hence, the Chinese, Indian, French, European and African influences.
