впервые в Академгородке. Тиу!
Year is 2006. I'm sitting on Manta Ray Island. Fiji. On the beach. Alone. Open to where the day will take me. Not too long, I get approached by a local.
Hey miss you want to kayak with me today?
But of course😁
We set off to circle a neighbouring island.
Intrigued by the cliffside I point to the island and shout to the Fijian. "explore!" As I'm getting out of my kayak, a huge wave comes out of no where lifts my kayak up and smacks it directly into my lateral malleolus, the bony part of your ankle.
Holy #$# I have never felt so much pain in my life. I am screaming and hollering in pain. It hurts. Like hell.
"Please miss, sit down"
biting my own arm I sit. I'm trying to hold back the tears.
The Fijian takes a hold of my ankle. He holds it with pressure similar to that you would use holding a dove. I watch him. He's starting to sweat. As the sweat pours Down his face my ankle numbs. Within 2 minutes I feel nothing.
All pain has entirely subsided. 😅
Ecstatic I get to explore the island confused and amazed as to what just happened.
Physics of bone trauma says that one fast sharp acute direct trauma to bone is the most damaging. Bone is meant to withstand longer compressive forces. A direct hit like that should have at least fractured some bone. From a mechanical standpoint, to treat you could compress the bone for a longer period of time to increase the surface area and give the very minimally elastic bone's matrix a chance to distribute the force. This would give the bone a fighting chance but Either way I'd be coming out with tenderness and pain. Instead I came out with neither.😅 To this day I have no issues with my right ankle bone. I did however comes out with a new perspective. 🤔
Later I learned that In Fiji, medicine comes largely from healers. These people are sought out often from a young age and possess the ability to heal with their hands. I later discovered a young 8 year old girl who passed out twice healing a man with 3rd degree burns. She sat there for 3 days with him as she absorbed the heat into her own body. They both survived. 😌
