2018 was the year I got my health back. I lost about 50 lbs and regained my strength and flexibility.
2019 is the year I’m going to push my body and mind to reach new heights...literally.
I’m training to climb a couple 14ers this Summer. That’s Colorado speak for hiking to the summit of a 14,000’ elevation mountain. They are all over the place in the Rockies.
I spent today getting some supplies.
For me, being in the mountains is necessary for my mental health. When I’m stressed out I just want to Run for the Hills.
My friends and I are starting a new group here in Colorado (and in Internet Land) called @runforthehillsmom.
We’re building a community of moms who want to refresh, reconnect, and reset in Mother Nature.
I’ll be posting about our adventures. Follow us @runforthehillsmom

Getting back to the mountains is by far my most favorite thing about living in Colorado.⠀
I grew up in the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas in Northern California. As a kid, I loved camping in the mountains and building manzanita forts on my property. ⠀
I moved to Southern California for college and never looked back. I got used to living a beach lifestyle. I never realized how much I missed the mountains until we were in Colorado. I honestly wish we lived in the foothills, but it’s just too remote for our lifestyle. Someday I want a cabin. ⠀
One of my greatest dreams is getting a RV or Class B van that I can just drive into the mountains and work from. I could listen to the wind in the trees and a rushing river all day long. ⠀
Where is your special place?
I love the flexibility of owning my own business.
I can work from home (on my back deck if it’s not too cold), at the library, at Starbucks, or really anywhere I take my phone (so everywhere).
I spend a lot of time alone in my home office. It can get a little monotonous so I like to change it up from time to time.
Productivity has less to do with the location I am in. For me, it’s all about the crunch time. I can bust out a lot of work in an hour, but if I have four hours nothing gets done (until the last hour).
Where are you most productive?
I am soo ridiculously impressed and amazed by people who are able to convince themselves that lie is real. Like, I know that truth is subjective and all that, but, being faced with fact after fact, and still be able to completely ignore it and delete it from brain, like it was nothing, forget about it, believe yourself when you say it ain't so, that is pretty cool and I have no idea how to do that. But, to be honest with you, I don't think I'd want to because it seems dumb and whatever it is you're hiding far back in brain will most likely come back and bite you in bum, metaphorically or not so I guess I'll just try to be honest with myself maybe baby because that seems smarter and I am smart sometimes also picture is unrelated (unless you have something to say about lying through makeup) did you catch the references bye

Spent the day with a little dreaming and scheming, but mostly planning.
I am all about my paper planners. #plannernerd
I carried a Day Planner and Franklin Covey for years. Now I use the @passionplanner
for my overall schedule and the @thecontentplanner
for my social media and blog.
My big dream is to some day create my own planner.
Are you getting ready for 2019? Are you a digital planner or a paper planner?
This is my church. I feel the fullness of life most when I am in nature.
We started the Goose’s Winter Break with a hike at Three Sisters in Evergreen. It was the perfect way to decompress and prepare for Christmas. 🏔
I am so grateful to live in this amazing place and have friends who are always up for a hike.
Double tap if you love Mother Nature!
Twinning is winning.⠀
The problem is...I don’t dress “fancy” enough for her. Her version of twinning would be wearing matching ball gowns.⠀
I’m still happy that she is willing to wear the same thing as me. My friend has an eight year old so I have a mini-crystal ball into the future. No #twinning
for her anymore.⠀
I’m going to hold on to these last couple years of twinning with the Goose as tightly as I possibly can. Thankfully, @oldnavy
generally has a lot of mommy and me twinning outfits.⠀
I just need to convince the Goose that jeans and neutrals are awesome.⠀
Double tap if you love #twinning
with your kiddos.
Enjoying this beautiful Colorado day! It’s 52, but feels much warmer in the sun.
I brought a book out and The Goose is riding her bike. We also did a little chalk art. Almost feels like Summer!
Double tap if you’re enjoying your #sundayfunday
Like my earrings?⠀
I do too. In fact, I would have paid more for them.⠀
I met the lovely mama who makes these earrings at a local vendor fair. Our booths were next to each other so I chatted her up about her business. When she told me that she only charges $5 per pair for these earrings I was shocked.⠀
Of course I love a good deal...especially on accessories, but man, I felt like she was seriously undervaluing herself. I (politely) asked her about her pricing and told her I thought she could easily charge more. Even $8 a pair would be better. But she didn’t want to charge more because she liked dealing in round numbers . . . it made giving change easier (although I didn’t see anyone pay her in cash).
Here’s the thing I didn’t tell her, but maybe I should have. I’ve seen other people selling comparable earrings for way more. Like $16 a pair. You can’t get a pair of earrings at Claire’s for $5, let alone hand crafted earrings. I didn’t push her further. She didn’t seem interested and I was just a strange woman promoting children’s slumber parties in a booth next door.⠀
But here’s the thing, for you dear friend I’ll be harsh. I’ll be harsh because you need to hear it and I can’t let you get trampled on. Don’t undervalue yourself!!!! This is something I’ve learned from @christybwright.
Do some market research on your product and don’t base your product price on the ease of making change. Value your time and your craft.⠀
I did, however, buy three pairs. Cuz $15 for awesome earrings (that I always get compliments on) is a freaking steal!⠀

Yoga pants have become the standard bearer of stay-at-home motherhood. Nevermind the actual yoga, the ability to wear those buttery soft pieces of cotton and Lycra as everyday wear represents the pinnacle of the SAHM life.⠀
When I was slogging it in a suit or even casual California wear in my day job, I was dreaming of the moment I could get home and put on my yoga pants. They represented everything that I wanted as a SAHM.⠀
But here’s the thing...⠀
As soon as I was a SAHM wearing yoga pants like it was my job, it only made me depressed. Sure there were a couple freewheeling and fancy-free months in there where I did pirouettes around my house. But then there were twice that many months of self-loathing and listlessness.⠀
Granted, there are a lot of high achieving women who can #ladyboss
in their yoga pants all day long. I have major entrepreneurial girl crushes on a lot of them. But for me, I need “real” clothes.⠀
As my friends can attest, I have a basic uniform that you will find me in most days. Jeans. T-shirt. A sweater or light jacket. Earrings. Necklace. Maybe a colorful scarf. This is dressed enough for me to feel motivated and alert enough to not fall asleep on the couch for 2 hours a day (true story).⠀
Are you pro yoga pants or pro-“real” clothes. Comment below.
Moving to a new place can be lonely and isolating.⠀
I strongly recall taking this picture. As it did then, this photo speaks to me of the isolation we felt when we first moved to Colorado.⠀
The Goose and I would go shopping practically every day just so I could get out of the house. I was afraid that my husband would be mad at me for spending money when I was no longer working, but it was the only thing that made me a little happy. The newly budding trees looked so beautiful, but the Goose alone made me so sad.⠀
The problem was our lives were “temporary” at that point. We were in an in between phase. We lived in a claustrophobic apartment and had no friends. The Goose and I were both home full time for the first time. She was bored. I was directionless and probably depressed. It was a horrible mix and it made me question whether stay-at-home motherhood was right for me.⠀
I look back at this period in my life and I am so thankful for the perspective it gives me on my current life. I am joyful and alive. Healthy and happy. Our whole family is thriving. We adore Colorado and can’t imagine ever leaving. Part of that joy came when we bought our first house and for the first time in our adult lives realized we would live in a place for longer than three years.⠀
And we made friends. I mom-dated hard. Building a community was key.⠀
Have you ever made a big move and felt isolated or directionless? Comment below with what helped you overcome those feelings. 👇
The Goose (aka Goosie or Gooser).⠀
I’m trying to respect her boundaries and privacy, so I won’t be using her real name here or on the blog. Please keep this in mind if you know us in “real life.”⠀
Since I’ve decided to open up our lives more publicly through social media and my blog, I thought it would be best to respect the person she is now and the person she may become. Senator Goose may not want the world knowing what she was like in Kindergarten.⠀
I am actually a pretty private person in my personal life. I like to keep “secrets” to myself. If my mom was posting about my day-to-day life I’d want her to give me some form of anonymity.⠀
Double tap if you agree. Also, ISN’T SHE ADORABLE WITH HER LITTLE BUN!! #proudmama
This is our little family. Just the three of us.⠀
It has been less than six months since we decided to keep our family small. Quite frankly, my husband and I don’t feel called to have another child. I desperately wanted to have a baby when I was trying to get pregnant with the Goose and I simply don’t have that same desire. I like our life. I like that it’s just the three of us.⠀
The Goose has asked for a sibling, but I think that is more about getting her own baby in the house than the reality of having a brother or a sister.⠀
I have given myself until 40 to make the final decision. That gives me a couple years to change my mind. If my husband and I have a drastic change of heart we will listen to our intuition and reevaluate.⠀
But for now, it’s just the three of us and I love our little family. 👨👩👧⠀
Do you have an #onlychild
Christmas has always been my favorite time of the year. As soon as there is a chill in the air I want to be in my Christmas jammies watching a movie by the fire.⠀
Somewhere in my 20’s I lost a bit of the Christmas spirit. My parents no longer lived in my childhood home, I was living in a town that was perpetually sunny and hot, and Christmas just felt like a lot of work. As an attorney, December only meant less working days for me to meet my billable hour goals and thus enduring the wrath of my boss.⠀
But when the Goose was born the magic returned. She lights me up with the Christmas spirit. I love seeing the joy and wonder in her eyes when she meets “Santa” or when we discuss our family traditions.⠀
Colorado Christmas has also brought me so much happiness. I love that it actually “feels like Christmas” here.⠀
Double tap if you’re feeling that #ChristmasSpirit
Hi Friends! I’m Candis. A couple random facts about me:⠀
I’m a former lawyer turned SAHM turned small business owner.⠀
I’m a born and raised Californian now residing in Colorado. I absolutely adore Colorado and will probably never leave. I live for the mountains.⠀
I have one daughter who we call “Goose” or “Goosie.”⠀
Cheeseburgers are my favorite food, but I also love Thai food and Sushi.⠀
What’s a random fact about you? Comment below.
Today for the first time in a long time I went to the mall and not only was I able to buy my friends little girl a birthday present but I also bought myself a new pair of boots, a cozy poncho and a Christmas sweater without feeling guilty or the biggest factor feeling stressed out because I “didn’t have the money” that feeling sucks so bad. That feeling where you see something you really love but you have to say no because your money already has a spot to go 😫
Deciding to turn my passion for helping others and fitness into my side gig has been the best thing I have ever done for myself and I’m so blessed I got this opportunity offered to me! Yes it was scary but I had nothing to loose!
If you have a passion for fitness and helping others why not take this opportunity?! I have never been so supported, accountable and that feeling of being apart of something is amazing...And why not be the girl who walks into the mall and can proudly buy herself something without the stress! Would extra income benefit you?? You don’t need an education in fitness or business I don’t! I just believe 💜

Took the Goose on a hike today! It was cold, but the sun was out.
I am so thankful we moved to Colorado. The mountains are my happy place.
Hope you’re enjoying your #sundayfunday
to school! It’s snowing, but not a “Snow Day.” They rarely cancel school for snow in Colorado (at least where I live).
The Goose was so excited when I suggested we sled to school! Daddy was a little less excited to pull her. 😜🤷🏻♀️
I’m hoping this little sled ride to school created a #magicalmemory
that she will remember as she grows up.
This sums up a lot of my parenting philosophy . . . creating Big Memories. It’s why I like to go a little over-the-top for celebrations. It’s also the motto of my business @starshineslumberparties.
Double tap if you like to make Big Memories!
I was meant to live in a place with four distinct seasons. ❄️🌷☀️🍁
Today I will read in bed or cuddle The Goose by the fire and be grateful for this awesome weather.
I’m going to a Zumbathon this afternoon to support our awesome instructor, Hope, who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.
Double tap if you love the #snow
Days of gratitude 🌿
This sweet experience 👆
I’m so grateful that today I witnessed my son step out of his comfort zone, do something that scared him, and totally rock it 🙌
Typically he would not go in front of his entire school and sing a song. That is just not his jam, and I’m totally cool with that. But this time, for some reason, he was all in. He was practicing his song all week, excited for me to come watch, and his fear of being in the spotlight didn’t come up at all. It was such a joy to watch his joy when he finished! He was pretty proud #metoo
I’m also so incredibly grateful for the freedom to be able to go to my sons assembly in the middle of the day 🙌 without having to ask anyone for time off or worry about rescheduling anything #timefreedom #iworkwheniwant
🙌🙌🙌 It was a good day today. I love that.
The Goose has so much spirit! She was so excited to dress up like a #fairy
today to celebrate the Enchanted Book Fair.
I’m so grateful that I have the time to volunteer at her school. It’s fun to be involved. I also loved the #bookfair
as a child so it was cool to help with the setup.
I’m not naturally a morning person, but the morning is quickly becoming my favorite time of day.
I get up before the Goose and spend 45 minutes to an hour reading. When her alarm goes off I get back in bed for 15 minutes of cuddle time before we get up for the day. We talk and laugh and giggle. It’s the time when we have our best conversations about the curiosities of life and growing up.
What’s your favorite time of day?
The Goose is all about “being fancy” and “stylish.” Her version of stylish is wearing all stripes (even if the colors don’t coordinate at all). 👗
She was super excited when I asked her to dress me today. She went for my pink jeans first. Next she chose a cocktail dress, but changed to a purple blouse that is two sizes too big for me now. 🙌 She picked out my high heel booties and a bunch of random accessories (including her Elsa hair clip). ❄️ Check our my stories for the full look. ☺️ How do you get fancy?
The Goose: “Are you voting for Mayor?”
Me: “Uh...I don’t think we have a Mayor here, but I am voting for Governor.”
Goose: “Oooo! You get to be the Governor!!!” 🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️ We’re still working on the mechanics of the voting process over here, but at least she’s asking questions. 🗽
I’ve always made it a point to take her to the ballot box with me. Here in Colorado, we have drop off boxes so it’s a little anti-climatic. She was bummed that she didn’t get a sticker. 🇺🇸 She did get to see me drop my ballot between the car and the ballot box and try to wiggle open the door to get it (with a line of cars behind me). 🤦🏻♀️ Get out the vote!!!
So excited to get my first Caramel Brûlée Latte of the season! 🎄 Forget that Pumpkin Spice stuff, I’m all about the CBL. 😄 I’ll be that person desperately asking for it in March.
Thank you @starbucks
for the awesome reusable cup. I need all the coffee. ☕️
Rocking our Mommy-Daughter costumes as #miraculousladybug
. Posting a day late because I really wanted to be in the moment with The Goose. 🐞🐱 I am so thankful that I can spend the day being her sidekick and join in on all of the Kindergarten Halloween festivities. This was definitely not something I had time for in my previous life as a lawyer. The flexibility afforded by life as an entrepreneur/WAHM is awesome! Sure...it’s hard work, but I get to choose my schedule and make my work actually work for me. 😍
Also, can we talk about my blonde hair?! 👩 It’s kinda weirding me out. 🎃
What did you dress up as for Halloween? Comment below!
I love our simple life! And that I get to enjoy it without interruption. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ When you follow a few guidelines you can get so much more done in less time, so that you can enjoy time with the family when they are home!

The decision to start my own business wasn’t hard at all. After I said yes, did I have a moment of wtf did I just do?? ABSOLUTELY! But I saw potential in the company and business model. I knew that this was so much more than just selling skincare.. and it’s not even that! It’s sharing an incredible opportunity and helping people achieve amazing skin. Making new friends and reconnecting with old ones. Watching your friends and family succeed. Which is my absolute most favorite part.
I am looking for 3 people this month. 3 ppl who want to “do the damn thing”. 3 ppl who are coachable, and willing to work for it. I’ve got your back 100%. Just start, and I’ll help you figure out the rest.
