One of my favorite comfort food eateries, Chugoku Ryori Nagasaki Hanten 中国料理長崎飯店 in Shibuya! Focus on their specialties: Gokujyo Champon Nagasaki style (the mixed vegetables, particularly the shiitake and cabbage are wonderful, as are the seafood and the killer pork bone broth that’s super clean tasting), Sara Udon (despite the name, is closer to Cantonese style pan fried noodles, order kata men for it to be crispy... add mustard, vinegar, and sauce to customize), and how can one skip their beautiful gyoza here that are similar to potstickers! All perfect with a beer 🍺!!
Signature hand made jumbo pork shumai 手作りジャンボ焼売 from Tsukiji Yajima やじ満 an old school Japanese Chinese eatery that has fed local fishermen, sushi chefs picking up their catch, and numerous Tsukiji Fish Market workers for several decades. Lightly self decorated with house sauce, vinegar, and a little chili oil. Dab a bit of the Japanese mustard (wagarashi) and you are so set!
Chukoku Ryori Sansuirou, a classic old school neighborhood eatery in Sendagi/Yoyogi area that specializes in Chinese food suited for Japanese locals. They have ramen done the Japanese Chinese way, but sometimes a little greasy stir fry like Hoi Kou Rou (twice cooked pork), gyoza and wash down with a beer is all you need!
