The Meg is about a high-tech, marine biologist research station. The station’s crew makes a discovery after diving below the the Mariana Trench. They discover an undiscovered world where they find the prehistoric Megalodon. Being completely honest, I have a fear of sharks. Ever since I saw Jaws when I was too little, I’ve been afraid of sharks, and the Megalodon is pretty much my worst fear, so this movie affected me more than it would other people. However, I think this movie isn’t as bad as many people say. The humor and the cast is the best part of this movie. Especially Rain Wilson and Page Kennedy. They delivered the most humor. Also, all the scenes that took place underwater looked really good, and those were some of the best sequences of the movie. And, the little girl in this movie is really good. She has a lot of funny and entertaining scenes. However, this movie was just made to be fun and nothing else. All the characters are one dimensional, and this movie has little to now emotion behind it. This movie, also, isn’t all that original. It takes a lot of story elements from films like Jaws and The Lost World. A lot of the horror of this movie is mostly just cheap jump scares. Overall this is just a mindless shark movie that’s meant to be fun, and I recommend it if you want to relax and have fun.
Overall Grade: C+
