Ignore the ugly face making 🤪😬, this is my training STYLE and what keeps my body solid .... Functional Range Conditioning and Bodybuilding ( with @bfr_bands ) this combo for me has been the best method of training for my body, I loooooove it. Bodybuilding strengthens my muscles and @functionalrangeconditioning strengthens my tendons and ligaments, focusing on joint/capsule strengthening. If you have never done FRC, it looks like nothing... but believe me, this shit will kick your ass sideways !! In a good way 😍.. don’t just take care of you larger muscle groups, get in there and focus on the grunt work, it makes ALL the difference... I am working on hip capsule sleeper stretch pails and rails ... aka heaven ... aka slow death 😂..If you have FAI ( femoral acetabular impingement ), don’t just stretch your muscle , strengthen them.... having FAI the hip is at least 10 times more tight than a “regular” hip.. and leads to impingement without proper maintenance... my left hip went down to 8% range of motion !!!!! ... so now I work on keeping my range of motion as open as I can , and this is how you achieve it. I’m hoping to avoid future surgeries now. Stretching / Mobilizing the spine into flexion! 👍👍👍 . . The technique shown here is extremely simple and extremely effective. 👍 . . The client lies in Child’s / Restorative pose. It doesn’t matter where the arms are but it is important that the legs/knees are under the trunk to facilitate flexion of the spine. 👍 . . If desired, a pillow can be placed under the abdomen to further facilitate flexion of the spine. 👍 . . If the client’s quads are tight, a pillow can be placed between the thighs and legs. If the client’s dorsiflexors are tight, a pillow can be placed under the ankles. 👍👍 . . The therapist’s hand closer to the client’s head is placed lower on the back, contacting a spinous process (SP) and is placed transversly across the client’s back. 👍 . . The therapist’s hand that is closer to the client’s feet is placed above, contacting the very next SP, and is placed length-wise. 👍👍 . . The therapist then pushes with both hands down toward the floor and away from each other, opening the spinal joint between the two contacted SPs into flexion! 😊😊 . . SHOULDER PAIN --- Let's talk shoulder pain. A lot of posts on social media focus on some exercises for a given body part/given condition. Some of the reason for that is that it's impossible to summarize an entire treatment philosophy in just a single IG post. (Just as a heads up, that's never the goal - one post ≠ all inclusive to treatment) I absolutely believe that some isolation work to the painful area is necessary. But it's also necessary to work the surrounding distal/proximal joints, and in general continue training. In this example of general shoulder pain, working on the spine, UE strength, and closed chain drills is a great way to encompass the aforementioned ideology. 1️⃣ Isolation ER work 2️⃣ Floor/Unilateral/OHP for UE strength 3️⃣ T-spine drills 4️⃣ Closed Chain drills To overly simplify, just because you have shoulder pain doesn't mean that you need to spend 2 hours working on isolation shoulder drills every day. Instead, add in some direct isolation work to your current training regimen (which should include a well rounded full body routine), or even work them into different parts of your day (during commercial breaks watching TV, after spending too much time on IG, etc) - 🔑 Always remember to take a step back and look at the whole person. Mobility gains . . Improving joint range of motion is dependent on ACTIVE and PASSIVE tension, where ACTIVE tension relates to the nervous system, and PASSIVE is related to the physical properties of the muscle (fascia/viscoelastic properties). . . While foam rolling and dynamic stretching are great for targeting the ACTIVE aspect of muscle tension, and increase stretch tolerance (think increase in pain threshold after a few minutes of rolling!), in order to get true changes in muscle extensibility and long lasting mobility improvements, LOADING actively mobilised joints using weights and resistance has been shown to be more effective than stretching alone (Swank et. al 2003, Ribeiro et. al 2017, Morton et. al 2011). Thus, contrary to the notion that lifting weights makes your muscles “stiffer”, adding an eccentric/isometric component and taking the joint to a new ROM, can actually improve passive mobility. . . Take home: Research suggests that loaded mobility can be an effective way to improve joint range of motion for the long term. Foam roll, mobilise with dynamic stretching, and then LOAD! Movement Monday! . Here’s another one of my favorite variations of chest flys. Machine flys are probably the safest form of chest flys there is. They are also super adjustable, as you can change both the height of the seat and the placement of the hand holds, as well as of course the weight. One thing I really like about machine flys is that they keep constant tension on the muscle through both the concentric and eccentric movements. . When performing this exercise, set the seat and hand holds at a place that is comfortable for you and hitting the muscles you want to hit. If the seat is higher up, you place place more emphasis on your lower chest muscles, and if it is lower, you will place more emphasis on your upper chest muscles. I like to keep a slight, constant bend at my elbow throughout the movement. You will want to bring your arms all the way together and then all the way back again in order to get a full range of motion and the best bang for your buck. . Personal efficiency. - [x] The second character is ‘Good’ and translates as Sheep 🐑/ alter. Good change or change for the better. To me Kaizen is the business term for Salubrious. A healthy business is one which is in perpetual improvement... as is a Salubrious Life👍🏼🙌🏼😇🤩 Effective and Efficient 🧐 If there is a way to improve - a way to be more effective - a way to do so more efficiently (remember ‘as much as necessary-as little as possible’?) Kaizen is the term to keep in mind. Currently in Melbourne. 👤 "MAXIMUM EFFORT" 👤 - Some of the hip mobility work I've been doing that I attribute to helping my front squat positions and feels. End range holds. - I first pull my hip passively (with an external force, my arm) into the desired end range. I then ramp up some full body tension before letting go. As soon as I let go, my goal is to keep the gap between the passive range and the active (no external force to help, no arm help) as small as possible. Super challenging. - Bonus points: who can tell me what movie character I am quoting with my video title?
