For warm up I did the @jumpnrope 100 club because I was excited after taking two days off to use my bullet comp rope. I did the 100 challenge back in December I think and sent it in and never received a response but it’s all good. I don’t train to be sports specifically skilled. I train to enjoy being able to play or practice in a sport FOR FUN. I didn’t show whether shots went in or not for a reason. It isn’t about that. My uncle and his buddy practice basketball all the time. I just enjoy being active and being able to hang with them on a fitness level. Not a skill level. Basketball players work tirelessly on muscle memory, dribbling coordination, footwork, the list goes on. I don’t log hours getting better at those skills. I can, however enjoy a basketball workout if I choose though. Interestingly enough... 30 Day Snapshot: Buddy Lee Aero Speed Rope Proficiency ... ... Left: 5/3/19 - I actually lost confidence using #buddyleejumpropes and didn’t even know why I even busted it out at #crunchfitness that day but glad I did. Felt the rope was too short for me not knowing it was just a lack of knowledge and technique. I still had balance and core issues and my heavy feet, obviously. Looking back I didn’t feel out of shape since I was smack dab in the middle of the #rushathleticschallenge grinding it out everyday. I remember only using this rope twice that day due to frustration. ... ... Right 6/14/19 - Just started reading the Buddy Lee jump rope training manual and really started to learn the basics tbh. How to hold the handles, body position, symmetry, and arm position. Looking at the video on the left I can see what to correct and understand why I was so frustrated. Books are cool aren’t they? 🤣 ... ... So great looking back at my progress I am excited to keep learning and improving everyday. Today I’m discussing: Supersets. One of the best things EVER when I’m on a time crunch. Not everyday I look to go into a workout thinking I want to workout for 1.5+ hours. Sometimes I wanna fit in a good workout In 45 min. Sometimes even less. So I’ll write out a super set workout to save time while utilizing the same amount of energy. Sometimes even more energy than if I would have spaced the workout out. But... there is a catch. There’s an ART to making a GOOD superset workout. You can’t just put any 2 exercises together. They should share an agonist/antagonist relationship. Examples include pushing/pulling. Upper body/ lower body. I wouldn’t superset leg exercises. Even if they are isolated. Hamstrings and Quads work in conjunction. Biceps and triceps however don’t. In the above example you’ll see pull ups followed by pike presses. Two very different exercises that don’t take away from each other. Just some guidelines to try and apply to your own training. I encourage you to do what you want! JUMP SKIPPING ROPES
Yet another post to provide some insight on the next skill I’m working on: Hand Balancing. Recently I’ve put some basic gymnastic movements in my regiment due to the strength benefits that isometric holds and static moves provide the human body with. It’s “easy” to add weight to the bar workout after workout. What is a little tougher, is learning balance, coordination, and getting the nervous system to properly communicate with your body to perform feats such as L-Sits, or handstands without handicaps like a wall to support you. This is the ultimate test in patience for my fitness journey as I continue to mix in the things I’m good at with the things I’m working on or really bad at. Not only am I able to share the journey with the mass population as we continue to work on these techniques, but we as a #fitnesscommunity should be able to learn together and provide some inspiration to get out of our comfort zones and continue to learn things we know nothing about as we lead healthy, active lives. Because growing up, I played instruments. There isn’t an athletic bone in my body. But over the years I’ve developed into a learning machine. Last workout of the week till Saturday. I’m just happy I got to play with my new Bullet Comp rope to get it out of my system.
