I went for a walk in Maligne Canyon today. Looks like Spring is still not here yet! 😉

Had a great time playing tourist and geeking out and being silly at the Dino Museum! But, the last thing I expected to see was real dinosaurs! Can't speak for all, but I find that I always think of the Jurassic Park type extreme creatures - the gigantic; the terrifying; the ones that look like they could be out of sci-fi movies. We have this image that all dinosaurs existed together and that every species ceased to exist after the asteroid that struck (possibly), but in reality there was more time between the Stegosaurus and the T-Rex than between Mr T-Rex and us now! #hollywoodlies ! Never knew before that those last few species were so ancient either! #surprise#surpriseanddelight#sorrynotsorry#creepycrawlies#learntsomethingnew#alwayslearning#geekout#guidelife
Being a silly dino in front of, and inside of, possibly the only World's Largest of anything I've ever been to.. Dinosaur capital of Canada, Drumheller's entire identity revolves around the creatures that they discovered sleeping peacefully in the surrounding lands. Definitely geeked out exploring the relevantly named streets trying to find our favourites. Definitely a good place to still be childish and let the imagination run wild! #sillydino#nevergrowup#childishfun#perfectcompany#whoscutest ? #localknowledge#guidelife
Winter escape to the Badlands! It's strange not seeing mountains on the horizon, but when the sunset lights up the sky and the whole town it's perfectly manageable. Apparently Drumheller isn't a usual place to visit in the winter, but that just gave us the place to ourselves! Perfect little escape! #weekendescape#winterholiday#secretspot#happyaccident#luckyus#awkwardicicle
Caught in a snowstorm: As the snowfall increased and visibility decreased, I began to head home. A family of deer had the same idea and came out of the bush ahead of me. They made a great team, each checking a different direction before crossing the trail.
A note on snow effects. This image is a combination of a real snowstorm and photoshopped “closeup snowflakes” by making a brush preset, adding layers and using a motion blur in the direction of the actual snowfall. With my focal range being far back by the deer, I lost any definition to the snow falling closer to me and by adding the appearance of closer in flakes, I could regain the feeling of being surrounded by falling snow.
Have you had a chance to check out the wind farms near Waterton? I highly recommend it! The continuous rows of these massive turbines look like they’re straight out of a sci-fi landscape. The clouds were completely cooperating for this shot; casting the mountain into a dark moody shadow while throwing a soft ray of light onto the final turbine.
Most people look at Stoney Squaw from Banff and don't even realise it exists.. Tucked on the side of the ski hill, it is full of character and interest many of the other mountains don't offer. The hike challenges in moments, but offers spectacular scenery from serene forest walks, to incredible wide open views of the valley, to stunning rising peaks of Cascade Mountain. It's the perfect escape from some of the busier trails that holds more beauty in such a short trip. Helps when you have great weather and the perfect person keeping you company. #overlookedjewel#localknowledge#perfectday#luckyme ❤️

The Empress Hotel is definitely more majestic at night!
Twig Eater: In winter the moose diet is mainly made of twigs from trees and shrubs; such as the willow, aspen, birch and balsam fir. Between the sparse and less nutritious vegetation, moose (also known as winter) ticks and deep snow leaving them vulnerable to predators, this can be a tough time of year to survive.
Note: cropped in addition to using a telephoto lens.
I absolutely love the texture of fallen pine. The cracks, nicks and varied graying make for such an interesting up close view. Strangely the tone of this photo makes me think of red wine, cheese and the smell of a cozy wood burning fire.
