All day long I have watched people raking leaves from my window. Control and mastery all for a 'perfect' lawn. How does that speak to the food Leaf provides to Grass, Worm, Bacteria, Woodbug, and Funghi? Tree resists this WoManmade line, and drops Leaf and his companions ever so slightly to the left.
As I sit and think about the demarcation of "my property" vs. "your property" represented by these leaves, the sounds of Bird, Wind, Children, and Car tickle my ears. Listen closely, can you hear anybody else? Juxtaposed they still live together, does Bird ever consider the music of Children at the park?
Crow walks with me, remaining twenty feet ahead. She pokes at leaves with her beak, perhaps she is searching for worms. I startle her as I move for my camera and she flies to the top of a lamppost. As she wipes her beak against the silver grey metal, I wonder about her use of WoManmade infrastructure. The post becomes her safety from me in this moment, yet it is partially responsible for her loss of habitat. Thank you, Tree, Bird, and Crow, for blurring the divide with me today.
