Feeling guilty that the idea of #backbend practice fills me with dread.......I decide to practice anyway (because that's #tapas ), but no dropbacks or kick overs tonight alright? . 2. I roll out my mat, start to move and find that my back feels really good tonight...... . 3. I grab my heel for the first time in #kapotasana for #kapotasanaweekly with @applestoreyoga and @__sil_06 🎉😏 (slide 2). #miniyogabreakthrough . . 4. Simple poses for 🏀 to get you through to the weekend 🧘🏻‍♂️🙌🏻 . Here is a short sequence of passive yoga poses for opening the hips and releasing tension in the groin and lower back 🤤 You can do this against a wall and let gravity do all the work 👌🏻 These are great stretches for post-game or pick-up❗️ . In each of these positions you want to try to relax the muscles surrounding the hips and feel the pull of gravity ⤵️ The closer you scoot to the wall, the greater stretch you will feel. Once this feels comfortable, you can venture away from the wall and do these while sitting. . 🌟#ALOver40 🌟 - last day is show us your best ~ so I give you my aesthetically speaking worst asana, #kapotasana . Why? Because the journey to catching my heels by myself has been long and informative ranging from I am going to die to staying for Sharats slow count in led intermediate. I think it reflects one of the main points of yoga, repetition strengthens the nerve communication, going beyond the initial fear/ panic and sticking with it allows us to pause and not react, it presses pause on the automatic flush of fight/ flight hormones to allow a full assessment of the situation and possibly it's an age thing? but often the assessment is that the situation is not beyond our ability to cope, thus the stress hormones are not released at all. Yoga pose goal for 2018 accomplished! I've been working on #kapotasana or #pigeonpose for several months with different teachers, and @ashtangayogasalone has been a fantastic guide (and surreptitious photographer) on the journey to improve this backbend. A few years back when I first saw a photo of someone doing this pose, I thought it wasn't for me (at least not in this lifetime). Backbends often provoke fear, aversion, and the idea that something is impossible or out of reach. However, when I came to Kapo in the #asthangayoga #intermediateseries about 8 months ago, I was ready to give it a try. At first I couldn't breathe in the pose and thought my spine might crack on the way down. Eventually my hands touched ground, and I could walk my fingers to the tips of my toes. Fast-forward and now (with some support) I am able to grab my heels. Ayer fue uno de aquellos días en los cuales una llega exhausta al mat, sintiendo que unas cuantas posturas de pie es todo lo que voy a poder hacer! Siempre me sorprende cómo la práctica se va deshaciendo por capas de un cansancio que es mucho más mental que físico (a veces). Al conectar con el cuerpo el “rollo mental” pierde su fuerza y aparecen en su lugar recursos y energía para seguir explorando🌿 Esta postura, #kapotasana , es la extensión de columna más intensa de la segunda serie de Ashtanga, que despierta también emociones y sensaciones intensas! Algunos detalles a los cuales prestar atención: •PIERNAS: son clave! Rodillas al ancho de caderas, muslos que quieren rotar hacia adentro y una posición en la pelvis que permita que se alargue el psoas. Las piernas cargan gran parte del peso, así el tronco está liviano para poder alargarse y enfocarse en la extensión de columna. • COLUMNA: generalmente hacemos la extensión de la zona lumbar y hay algunas personas que creen que si duele la espalda es porque se “está abriendo” No!! No debería haber ninguna molestia en la espalda baja. Por eso tenemos que abrir el pecho al máximo primero, sino seguro se sobrecarga la espalda baja. Al inicio, mientras el pecho sube el coxis baja, y eso mantiene la zona lumbar larga, haciendo una extensión sin compresión! Hay infinitos detalles, infinitas sensaciones, y siempre hay que comenzar con las bases. Con buenas bases, el foco en las acciones principales y una comprensión de lo que estamos haciendo, se abre la posibilidad de descubrir y profundizar. Esta vez mostré la postura sin props (que son puntos de referencia tremendamente útiles!) pero los estuve imaginando en todo momento 😉 . . #practicoenpadma
