I couldn’t have a conditioning session with @s.sarimtahir yesterday as he was going through a relapse caused by a rare condition he suffers from… Multiple Sclerosis. Multiple Sclerosis is an autoimmune disease that affects the nerves in the brain and spinal cord. It causes the tolerant to have spells of complete paralysis and impaired vision that can last from a few hours to even days. Sarim also has a lumbo sacral spasm due to curvature loss in his back. Modern medicine hasn’t produced a cure for MS yet, however, regular exercise, a balanced and organic diet can help prolong the time period between relapses. Sarim is a successful entrepreneur and prominent university lecturer; his bookshelves are stacked with books related to unleashing the mind, will power, inspirational biographies and the likes. His condition does not stop him from managing multiple businesses and fulfilling his duties as a son and a father. There is much to be inspired by from his story, but what inspired me today was Sarim’s smile when he opened the door to me at 9.30 AM for a session I wasn’t expecting for several days. Each and every one of us is going through a war of our own. Our challenges may defer from one another in their intensity, but we endure it equally. The purpose of our challenges is two-fold; to either diminish us, or to make us grow as extraordinary individuals. There is power in gratitude. Like Sarim, let’s take on our challenges with a smile, knowing that the only limits upon us, are the limits in our minds. Pain is inevitable.
