He’s here!! My little man was born on Monday July 9th when I was 40+4. The labour was....well labour but worth every last second of pain because the moment he was placed on my chest, my heart melted 💙 and exploded all at once. I’m 6 days postpartum now and feeling pretty good considering what my body just accomplished. My little guy is keeping me busy but I am trying to let my body just relax until I am ready to start properly moving which should be in a couple of weeks. I fell back into some bad habits this weekend. We went to a party for my nephew Saturday and then had my 3yr olds birthday party today. I skipped the cake both days. I only ate 1 slice of pizza even though I was still so hungry. I didn’t touch the chips. I skipped the bun. I deprived myself. I ate less because I didn’t want to eat the bad stuff which I guess could be good for some? For me, that’s not good. On this macro and fitness journey, it has given me the strength and power to eat MORE. I can’t be afraid to have cheat meals or hell, even cheat DAYS. On days I don’t workout i treat myself like this prisoner who should not eat this or that or only eat a certain amount of something which is honestly borderline crazy and ridiculous. Maybe I’m not alone in feeling this way. I love my fitness Instagram page because it allows me to speak truth to others that go through similar situations. Sometimes I just have to get things off my chest. Can’t wait to get back to my macros tomorrow and start fresh. Rainbow goodies! I ate most of all this delectable nourishment over the weekend including some these epic avocados from @avocadoorganic 🥑❤️ How was your weekend and what did you do? Today I totally just relaxed, watched the World Cup and snuggled with Jason, did some baby stuff and continued reading, “Ina May's guide to childbirth” which I am totally loving! This weekend was so busy I just needed the day to decompress and do basically nothing. Friday I got in a great gym session, went hiking and then played tennis and on Saturday we did two 10 mile bike rides throughout the day. After our last ride I took the coldest shower ever and it felt amazing!!!!! We started watching this show on Neflix called, “Glow” and I’m so into! I'm not a personal trainer, nor did I use one, No gyms, no heavy weights, just dumbbells and Resistance bands so if you look at this and think this is a small amount of progress in a very long time ... just remember this body was built by an ordinary mum of 2 in her living room - not a gym. 🙅🏻🏋🏻‍♀️ FYI I happen to think I've achieved way more in 2 years than I ever thought was possible from just at home .. so I personally don't feel this progress is small or that it took a particularly long time... every stage in the journey has always far exceed my expectations! everyone is allowed their own opinion, that's just mine 🤷🏻‍♀️ . . 2) at no point have I ever tried to purposely build my glutes ... or done any kind of booty workout plan... so THIS IS NOT A BOOTY TRANSFORMATION PIC.. I do think my bum has come a REALLY long way... but this is from doing full body conditioning workout programs and is in no way me saying "look how much I built my butt in 2 years!" Happy national ice cream day! I had two at the pool today because they were free (and delicious!) 😋. Anyway, I don’t feel bad about it because I just knocked out bbg legs! At the end, I added on some split squats and they were a killer! Also, healthy living is all about balance. Could I eat better and have less body fat? Yes. Do I want to sacrifice that for enjoying life in the moment? Not right now. I’m happy with myself and my body. When I really want to slim down, I know I could. More muscle now & less fat. But still a similar scale weight⚖️ . This is what I try to explain to clients! Don't be discouraged if the number on the scale doesn't say what you feel like it should- less weight is not necessarily better🤷🏼‍♀️your weight can go up, down, or stay the same but all of it can still mean you're making progress! . 📏Taking your measurements can be a huge help: because, for instance, perhaps your waist is getting smaller but your butt is getting more muscular🤷🏼‍♀️📈💪🏼 that may look the same on the scale but very different in real life. ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️ . ❗️2013: lost a bunch of weight and then gained it all back (+ some)😣 because I didn't know BALANCE. I'd do tons of cardio when I went to the gym and barely lifted weights because I thought it would make me look "like a man"...🤦🏼‍♀️ . ❗️2017: I lift weights & track my macros👌🏼. I eat enough food every day of the week to keep me satisfied😊. No more binge eating & no more over restricting🙅🏼. When I took a week break from social media, I found that I didn’t judge myself so harshly, and I think it’s because I didn’t see people’s pictures to compare myself to. Now I know that the fitness social media world has good intentions to build people up and motivate, but if you’re anything like me, you have at times found yourself feeling down about your body, your motivation, your eating, or not making time to workout. BUT everyone is different. Everyone has different talents and strengths, just like I do and just like you do! I am me and you are you.🖤
I AM GUILTY . ❗️PLEASE READ❗️ . Last night, my @fitbit alta hr band broke and I panicked because I have been using fitbit watches since end of 2015. I hate to admit that even though I have been #scalefree for over 1.5 years, I still rely on my fitbit for steps, heart-rate monitoring and *sometimes* calories burned. In the beginning, a fitness tracker was good to keep me motivated. But now, I feel obsessive about it! I have not been wearing my fitbit since this morning and I swear I feel so LIBERATED!💗 . 🤯Why do we let a number control our lives? 🤯Do you let that number change your mood? 🤯Do you let that number take a toll on the memories you make? 🤯Do you let that number change your perspective about food differently? . I AM GUILTY! I am guilty for being that person who let her emotions, her memories, her actions be controlled by that number on scale, or the number on that fitbit! . Oftentimes life can get hectic and you may struggle with fitting in your workouts. Or you may feel like it’s not as much of a priority as the laundry, grocery shopping, etc. But it’s important to take time for yourself on a regular basis. Working out and eating healthy are two ways you can give back to your body that provides you with so many wonderful abilities. Butttt, easier said than done amiright?!? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Here are some ways that i make it easier to find the time: 1) When i get dressed in the morning, i put on activewear. Besides the fact that #sweatpantsareallthatfitmerightnow 💁🏻‍♀️ it makes it super easy to just throw on my sneakers (or work out barefoot as i often do) as soon as I get the time. ⠀⠀ • ⠀⠀⠀ 2) Get creative and combine tasks. For me, nap time or right after school is ideal, but often i have other chores or work that need to get done during this time. Instead, I’ll work out with my toddler, making it a game, or in the backyard while she plays in the sprinkler. Heck, I’ve even worked out on the bathroom floor while Lucy plays in the tub! ⠀⠀⠀ • ⠀⠀⠀ 3) Just do it. Even if you don’t have a full 30 min, get started anyway. Half a workout is better than nothing, and it all counts toward the ultimate goal. ⠀⠀⠀ • ⠀⠀⠀ 4) Consider a 10-15 min HIIT. I do 30 sec on, 30 sec rest. They are great when you’re short on time.⠀⠀⠀ • ⠀⠀⠀ Bottom line, you’ll want to change your mindset. snacks are essential! homemade sweet potato granola bars are one of my favorite healthy snacks to bake for busy weeks. all moved in to my new apartment and of course already breaking in the kitchen 🤗 vegan + gluten free. recipe below! •• __________________________ 2 cups old fashioned gluten free oats 1/2 cup roasted + smashed sweet potato (roast 1 large potato at 425 in foil until tender, 40-50 mins) OR canned sweet potato purée 1/4 cup almond or peanut butter butter (or any seed/nut butter) 1/4 cup hemp seeds (I did a mix of hemp and chia) 1/4 cup pure maple syrup 1/4 cup avocado oil (coconut or melted butter will work) 2 tbsp ground flax seed 2 tsp cinnamon 1 tsp vanilla 1/4 tsp sea salt 1/4-1/3 cup dairy free chocolate chips Optional: stir in extra seeds or dried fruit (I did pumpkin seeds) 1. Preheat oven to 350F. 2. Combine oats, sea salt, and cinnamon in a large bowl. 3. Add all other ingredients and mix until everything is well combined. 4. Line an 8X8 baking dish with parchment paper. Spread mixture onto parchment paper until evenly spread and pressed down. Bake for 25 minutes. 4. Allow to fully cool, then remove and slice into granola bar sized pieces.
