Another day I had to make a decision to be brave and travel.
This was the beautiful view landing into Kerala today. But little did I know what what awaited me on the way from the airport to home. Though I was aware of the situation, never had I ever been handicapped by a harthal before in my life; it was always the bonus holiday it gave I enjoyed. Landing early in the morning, there was no indication of how severe and bored folks were here.
The cab I was traveling in was stopped at several points by activists who are in support of the curfew and impose all stay at their homes. As the car approaches they walk onto the road holding out tall orange flags, stop the car and a couple of them bang on the bonnet while the rest of their clan crowd around the car and talk to the driver.
My driver stopped wherever they flagged us down, explained to them patiently and showed my boarding pass and like this, we passed through most. At some, we were not let through and made to take a detour. Thanks to a very patient driver and @googlemaps
to navigate through some narrow side roads to get home safe finally.
Phew! Never had I relished like so the destination more than the journey before today.
As women, we need to be braver everyday. And for me, travel is a way to get braver and kinder. Going with what my heart wants does give me courage. We need be wise to be able to trust people and circumstances along the way. Afterall, our lives should be about experiences and we should have some of these stories in it too. This was a very risky one.
