For years I had a super unhealthy relationship with food... it was my go-to when I was stressed. I ate more potato chips and French fries than a person ever should in one lifetime. I went through spurts of calorie counting, meat free, low-fat, no carb... and I was so unhealthy.
Here’s what made a difference: I found the foods that make my body feel good. I paid attention to what fuels my body vs what trendy diet everyone is following. I cook with real, whole food ingredients whenever possible, the less processed the better. I try to eat vegetables with every meal. I buy produce and well-treated meats from local farms. I make more than enough for meals so that I can add last night’s veggies to this morning’s eggs. 🍳
I don’t do it all perfectly, and I definitely like ice cream too much to ever give it up. (I mean, I’m not a crazy person 🤷🏼♀️) But I know that I’m a better, nicer, less cranky mom when I actually take care of myself, and when I fill my belly with the food my body actually likes, I’m less likely to reach for the ones it doesn’t. Now if someone could just convince my toddler that food is delicious when you put it in your mouth rather than dumping it on the floor, that would be grrrreeeeat. 🤦🏼♀️

We love getting vendors and farmers in the same place! So often we find our artisan food purveyors sourcing their ingredients from our local farmers. Here's @acapicosalsa
getting some green chillies from Divine Harvest Family Farms!
What do radishes and lettuce have in common? These two veggies come together to make an amazing salad - we suggest adding in some ca grown avocados and mustard and have with a side of soup or toast and your choice of a hummus spread which can be found at our weekly Saturday market!
Purple kale is in and we’re loving what @screaerspizzeria
did it with! Swipe ➡️ to see! If you’re not too hip into cooking, it’s is a great addition to power up your simple soups too!
Starting the day off strong with @sizzlingginger
! They specialize in Ayurvedic foods and have a variety of vegan soups. Find them at our Saturday market!
Food storage tip! Wrap your green leaves in paper towels to keep them longer. You can even freeze kale and will often develop a sweeter flavor from the frost.
Farmer first. Land agreements that farmers sign with #localfarmsfund
are farmer friendly. Our lease-to-own agreements allow the farmers to focus their financial energy on their farm enterprise instead of land loans. This makes it easier for @redrock_farm
to provide grass-fed fresh milk daily to the folks in their community.
Tactile. Texture. Textile.
More than ever, I think people are craving handmade, natural products in a world of machine-made, synthetic and unethically-produced materials. There’s such a look of satisfaction when someone touches a wall hanging. To my viewers, it’s not only a work of art, but a rich tactile experience that brings one closer to the natural world.
Time to clean the nasturtiums!
An ongoing task at the farm. Deadheading and removing seed pods is really important to keep those plants bloomin'!
I’ve had my best pepper harvests ever in the last two seasons. I don’t know if it’s only the weather, or if they love the location (which is shaded until noon) or if I got lucky with the combination of worms, vermicompost and rock dust. 12 plants, 8 varieties (the shishito, purple beauty and gypsy aren’t pictured). -
Conservatively, I got 100 large peppers off of 10 plants and a few dozen each from shishito and jalapeño. Being competitive, I want to do better next year so I’ll be experimenting with some raised beds in full sun and “topping” my peppers to see if they produce more fruit than the 4ft tall plants I’ve been growing. Doesn’t look like enough time for them to fully ripen before it gets cold so I’ll be eating greens the rest of this year. -
Any farmers or gardeners have any extra tips for maximizing plant health and productivity? Any comments on the revenue potential of smaller peppers vs large peppers?

It’s all about to produce and consume.
