“Consciousness creates reality. Only when there is a mind to consider the world is there a world...You look at this thing and it moves. You try to portray it, and it changes. You look out of the corner of your eye, it eludes you. You stare straight, you widen your eyes, and it makes a face at you” -Jonathan Lethem
Los Angeles, Calif. — Subject/Observer is a group exhibition in which a selected group of artists create a chain of portraits using each other as their subjects. Pairings are selected at random, each artist serving as the subject for another’s portrait. Ultimately this project seeks to investigate the relationships and exchanges that take place when artists attempt understanding through the context of portraiture. Given the various nature of relationships between each artist and subject, a diverse body of work is inevitable. Unrestricted by method or medium, it is hoped that these works can bring into consideration questions of identity, both of the artist and subject, as well as the nature of information exchanged when creating a portrait.
The Subject/Observer project was initiated and curated by Los Angeles based artist Noel Madrid.

New piece - IRRATIONAL EXPECTATIONS (30 x 40 inches)
The name of every single company in the S&P500 Index is included in this piece.
Irrational Exuberance + Rational Expectations = Irrational Expectations
The S&P 500 Index (Standard & Poor’s 500 Index) is a market-capitalization-weighted index of the 500 largest U.S. publicly traded companies by market value, The index is widely regarded as the best single gauge of large-cap U.S. equities.
Irrational exuberance refers to investor enthusiasm that drives asset prices up to levels that aren’t supported by fundamentals. The term is believed to have been coined by Alan Greenspan in a 1996 speech, “The Challenge of Central Banking in a Democratic Society.” The speech was given near the beginning of the 1990s dotcom bubble, a textbook example of irrational exuberance.
In economics, Rational Expectations are model-consistent expectations, in that agents inside the model are assumed to “know the model” and on average take the model’s predictions as valid.

“In finding your True Self, you will have found an absolute reference point that is both utterly within you and utterly beyond you at the very same time.” -Rohr ✨
Finding who we truly are means we will encounter many beautiful paradoxes. It happens all at once, and slowly over the course of our lives. It is transformative, but at the same time, it is who we always were. And as Richard Rohr wonderfully puts it, it is both within us, and beyond us. This beautiful mystery is one that I love to dwell on, and I’ve found the easiest way to encounter it is through nature. Sometimes that means going on a hike through the forest, and other times it means sitting at home with a nice cup of tea, and finding it within ✨
I hope this weekend, we can all do one of those things! What have you found helps you contemplate and be mindful? I love learning new practices! ☺️

’s series Disintegrated Sentiments, she explores the connection between ephemera and modern styles of communication by pairing images of burning flowers from past lovers with break up texts. She is interested in how technology has affected the ways in which we communicate with one another, and how certain rituals, such as the antiquated act of gifting flowers, are used to convey messages- which much like texts, can be riddled with confusion. Come see her installation in person, this weekend at @noustousla.
Open Saturday 2-7pm & Sunday 11-6 pm.
5 Things You Don’t Know About Me
1. If I could be an animal I would be a fox or an arctic wolf, or a cross of the two!
I have been obsessed with both foxes and wolves since I was a child. There is an inherent connection that I feel towards these two animals specifically, though I truly admire all animal species!
2. I lived and studied in Australia for 6 months. This international exchange, which was part of my 4-year undergraduate degree, had a profound influence on my work, and the “Beings” series that I continue to develop today (my animal-people) was first created there!
3. I cannot live without music! The majority of my art is created while listening to music. The genres greatly differ depending on the mood that I am in or the one that I require for the specific emotionality of the piece. It ranges from classical, disco, dance, jazz, tropical house, to movie soundtracks. Though Beethoven is my go-to! .
4. I change artistic mediums almost daily and work on 5-8 pieces simultaneously. Drawing and painting require different approaches that both influence each other, especially in my discovery of novel techniques. I work in graphite, watercolor, ink, and oil paint. I occasionally also work in paper cutouts and installation. I shuffle between all of these depending on how I wish to express my ideas visually, what I want the viewer to experience, and what is conceptually more important (i.e. bold color for intense feeling and emotionality, black and white for focus on form, unity, and a timeless classic feel).
5. My work has always centered around the connection between people and animals. Even as early as my very first drawings as a child, I was already tuned to this special bond. Maybe I will share a few once I find them over the holidays! Let me know in the comments if that is something you would care to see!
Hope you enjoyed reading this and getting to know me and my art processes a little more! ❤️
Split between the red pill and blue pill, though it’s more like orange and turquoise in this case. 🙈 “Amelioration”, 30 x 30 inches, oil on canvas.
Amelioration // the act of making something better; improvement. (For this work, it’s meant as self-improvement and taking charge of your own life!)
One of my favorite goddesses in the series! She proudly hangs above my bed and is a constant reminder to enjoy every ounce of life, while embracing our unique quirks! “Self-Possession”, 30 x 30 inches, oil on canvas. ❤️
Pinks and icy blues for this goddess titled “Realization”, 30 x 30 inches, oil on canvas. 💕

One of the most emotive portraits of the series, “Outrospection”, 30 x 30 inches, oil on canvas. ❤️ Outrospection // a method in which you get to know oneself by developing relationships and empathetic thinking with others.
