#TransformationTuesday * Start of my journey 198lb At 5ft ๐Ÿ‘ Not many people will post transformation pictures of them losing muscle but I like to keep it real with y'all. Truth is it's not easy to maintain the same body shape year after year. As we get older bodies change, metabolisms slow and life just.. happens ๐Ÿคจ I often get asked "where is your transformation picture?" and I could just repost the same image that keeps getting lost down my feed but it's not a true representation of me right now. Today. And the last thing I want to do is give anybody the impression that maintaining the "ripped / shredded" body is sustainable ALL of the time year after year. Sure it can be done but it's incredibly hard especially if you're like me and love food ๐Ÿ˜„ have an underactive Thyroid and don't want to become someone who is obsessing over Macros / Training 24/7. Been there, done that ๐Ÿ˜• 2yrs ago I started experiencing extreme pain in my Arms that affects my ability to lift and row.. hence the muscle loss. Sure it sucks but shit happens, you learn to deal with it and it really made me realize how unrealistic keeping the same definition was as I got older. What is muscle โ€œtoneโ€? . . . According to the Oxford Dictionary it is: โ€˜The normal level of firmness or slight contraction in a resting muscleโ€™. Essentially, muscle tone is what makes your muscles still feel somewhat firm while you are resting and not intentionally tensing them. In its more conventional use, the term "muscle tone" refers to muscles that are visually defined and appear firm. . . . So how do you get โ€œtonedโ€? . . . Assuming you want to achieve the conventional definition of โ€œtonedโ€ this is achieved firstly via a reduction in body fat (healthy, balanced diet and appropriate gym programming) and secondly by embarking on a strength training plan to develop the muscles that lie beneath said body fat. Lifting heavier and for fewer reps develops muscle strength and contributes to that desired muscle tone; lifting lighter weights for more reps increases muscle endurance and is unlikely to yield great results in terms of toning over time. . . . The take home? Adopt a consistent weight lifting programme and donโ€™t be afraid to get out of your comfort zone - challenge and push yourself further each and every day. Focus on a goal of strength and ability, rather than of aesthetics. Train smart. . . . If youโ€™ve never done so before, stepping into the weights room can be daunting but thatโ€™s where we as trainers come in. Itโ€™s Day #44 and we are showing some love to the #GoldenStateWarriors ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’› lets show some #StrengthInNumbers by doing some Basketball Mountain Climbers ๐Ÿ€ Begin in a pushup position, with your weight supported by your hands and toes, with hands on top of a ball. Flexing the knee and hip, bring one leg until the knee is approximately under the hip. Explosively reverse the positions of your legs, extending the bent leg until the leg is straight and supported by the toe, and bringing the other foot up with the hip and knee flexed. Here are 4 key movement patterns to include in your exercise program. โ € -โ € With the hinge, you have more hip flexion than knee flexion. Some knee flexion is required though. HInging works the lower body, especially the posterior chain, such as your hamstrings and glutes. We hinge to tie our shoes or pick up something off the floor. Hinges include deadlifts, glute bridges, and hip thrusts.โ € -โ € Squats obviously require much more knee (and ankle) flexion and works your lower body as well (like the quads). Notice my chest is more upright too! We squat every time we sit down in a chair, toilet, or bed.โ € -โ € Pushing movements can refer to both upper and lower body (as in we push our feet into the ground), but generally, I think of pushing as more upper body exercises. We push a door open or closed; we push away from the floor as we get up. Pushing exercises include the push-up and bench pressing. Pushing works our chest as well as some of our arm muscles.โ € -โ € And finally pulling is more upper body focused. Pulling tends to work more of our back muscles as well as a little of our arms as well. Pulling includes pull-ups, rows, and pull-downs. We pull when we pull a door open or pull something closer to us or when we start (an older) lawnmower. (Anyone used to start a lawnmower by pulling a cord?)โ € -โ € There is one common feature among all these movements too - a neutral spine. Notice my back is not rounded in any of the photos. I have my pelvis in a neutral position and my ribs are down. This takes practice and sometimes a qualified professional to show you how.

After Circuit Training class... Chest, compound sets โ€ขBench press & cable fly (center), 5 rounds โ€ขLow incline db chest press & cable fly (low to high) 5 or 6 rounds Truth be told I had to lighten the weight a few times. It's hard to gauge how much weight you'll be able to move around when you're doing exercises of the same muscle group back to back. You're obviously going to be going lighter than if you were doing straight sets or supersets but how much lighter is hard to gauge. So I just lighten it up as needed. I like to be able to stay around 10 wraps give or take. On bench press I did 105# , 100# and ended with 95# (few sets at each weight). Same with the other exercises, at some point I had to lighten up to continue to get eight or more reps. I tried to rest as little as possible between the two exercises and rested longer between rounds. {TRAINING TIP TUESDAY} I'm wondering, do you FEEL your glutes when you are training lower body days? ๐Ÿ‘ Many women actually struggle to feel their glutes working during lifts like deadlifts, hip thrusts, and even during squats. Even though squats are more quad dominant, the glutes still play a role! ๐Ÿ‘ If this is you, you may not be priming the glutes enough BEFORE your lift.
