I’m changing my focus a lot these days. As for here, I’m going from City Strut to Daogism because there’s something they tell us with their actions and expressions. Listening and applying the right technique, balances any dog. This sounds mystical but just like Taoism, it’s so simple and practical, it appears illusive. Dog training isn’t magic whispering. It’s discipline with the self, intention, patience and practice. Dog training used to be all about “correcting mistakes”. Our society and most of our parenting still is. New dog training is about ignoring what you want to discourage and intentionally reinforcing what behaviors you want to encourage. Why this is important is where I’ll quote one of my favorite books called Click For Joy by Melissa C. Alexander, “Our over- reliance on either luring or compulsion teaches a dog to be cautious and wait to be shown what to do. The dog never learns to problem solve, to try different options to figure out what will earn a reinforcement. Correcting a dog for mistakes further suppresses the dogs willingness to try alternatives.” If only we could treat ourselves and one another the way modern dog trainers shape behavior. But is this really practical when your dog rolls in poop or eats it for that matter? And what about when you have a pack of dogs? What if ignoring the behavior keeps it going? Ill be exploring these topics and more in future posts.✌️ #daogism #taoofdog #dogsofnyc #nycdogs #manhattandogs #dogsofsf #dtladog #ladog #dogsofla #dogsofthebayarea #bayareadogs #dogsofnyack #nyackdogs #rocklandny #piermontny #frenchie #pomeranianpuppy

Yesterday we received a donation in honor of Mr. Cheeks. We were saddened to hear of his passing and thankful we were a part of his journey. Words from his people “In memory of our amazing dog, Mr. Cheeks, who we adopted from Much Love in 2009 and whose adventures led him all the way to Belgium, where he died peacefully in his sleep, with his family, on Dec 3rd 2018. He was 15. We are so grateful to Much Love and its pop-up adoption center. We were wandering around the Santa Monica Farmers Market that fateful day in 2009, looking for lunch. Instead we found the sweet love of our life. We miss him so much. May this donation help other humans find their doggie loves and help Much Love to keep doing their life-changing work. Thank you, Paul & Faradee”

🐶 ADOPT...Don’t Shop! 🐕
This time last week - 12/03/18. My mother & I drove 8+ hours in rain & snow to adopt this little Chihuahua from LA. She was saved from the Malibu fires & was hit by a car. But now she’s on the mend & in her furever home with my parents! She’s the sweetest & most loving pupster. She’s only barked once & wags her tail all day long!
