I remember when it hit me, the painful ache of realization that my babies are growing so fast and I’m hardly in their pictures. My youngest just turned 2, and when she climbed up into my lap, she made it clear that not only had her vocabulary grown, so had her body. Suddenly I didn’t remember how I missed that her legs had gotten this long. She’s much more understanding and thinks of questions that make me laugh. •
I feel that same ache as I write this post. But now I’m also thankful that I have pictures of me loving on her at the age she is. “They’re only little once” stands out to me now more than ever. Now, I can remember how small she is at this age, even as she continues to bloom. •
What are the moments that you had that made you realize something like this?
I know you're thinking - why are you posting this selfie? Maybe not. Okay, I honestly have no idea what you're thinking.
But there are a few reasons
1. Hey, I'm Kayla - and I love photographing families and newborns and all them just loving on each other. My work is completely focused on capturing fleeting, pure, emotional, and FUN moments of you and your family. I know you'll cherish them.
2. According to all the marketing gurus out there, you should be posting a photo of yourself in 1 in every 9 instagram posts, so that anyone who visits your page will be able to see you! The person who they will actually have to meet and communicate with and hopefully get to know and become best friends with.
3. Well why not? I am not afraid to say hello to my followers and let them know I'm here, I'm real. I'm a mom. I working hard at all the things, I am failing most days, but still I am a woman, I am a mom, I am important and I will not hide behind my work. Me and my work at 1 thing - I am an artist creating artwork and I love doing it. @huffpostwomen #kaylakohn #kaylakohnphotography #communityovercompetition #beunraveled #unraveledacademy #rawbeautytalks #mycanonstory #kansas #kansasphotographer #lfk
One of the first things I tell my families is not to look at me. Everyone is wired to look at the camera and smile. I’m not looking for that. I want you to look at your children or your significant other. Smile at them, laugh together. Those are the moments you’ll remember, not that cheesy Christmas Card smile. Promise.

Do you believe in #communityovercompetition
? I sure do! I joined @risingtidesociety
when it first began. I love the idea of encouraging and supporting other creative professionals. A rising tide lifts all boats!🛶⛵️🚤🛥🛳⠀
This beautiful family feels the same way and is part of the Rising Tide in Texas. And both being part of #TuesdaysTogether
groups is sort of what linked us up. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to capture some west coast memories for them last night. ☀️🌴🌊 I love my city so much and take pride in sharing San Diego with others. 💚Thank you Olvera family!! You are good people and I am happy to know you. 😻
Friends, If you are in the market for a photographer in Texas check them out! @olveraphotography
Hey y’all! I’m Malerie, the photographer here at Malerie V Photography. I’m so exited to be helping other entrepreneurs grow their businesses and turn their dreams of helping others into reality. Are you an entrepreneur who is helping people live better? Sometimes that means you’re in the health and wellness space, sometimes it’s spirituality and religion. Whatever it is, I’d love to work with you! Let’s make sure you can connect and reach the people who will benefit and grow from your message. Send me a message and we will get that going!
what do y’all do when you’re overwhelmed? Asking for a friend 🤦🏻♀️ My fall season is BUSY this year. Busier than it’s ever been. I’m so grateful but also a little overwhelmed.
The pile of laundry isn’t getting any smaller. The amount of editing in my queue seems like Mount Everest. And I haven’t even mentioned my 9-5 corporate gig. The hustle is hard, friends. Anyone else suffering from a never-ending to-do list? Bueller?
But then I start to cull through photos and all the stress goes away. It’s all worth it. You and your family are worth it. Family photos are important and what I’m doing means something 💛
If you were to give one piece of advice to new parents what would it be? 🤔We all know babies grow up too fast- yeah yeah, enjoy every moment 😹, but besides that-what's the advice you wish someone told you?⠀
Here's mine: Projectile poop happens; be prepared! 👶🏼💩😳⠀
changing pad liners saved my life and my sanity. I just had to wisk away the soiled liner and grab a new one😅 (I stocked up on those bad boys!). ⠀
Your turn! Give me all your best tips and feel free to tag any soon-to-be, or new parents who you think could find this useful. 😻💚⠀
ok, sunrise sessions are my new favorite thing 🌅 thankful this family woke up super early & braved the crisp fall morning 🙌🏻 I think it was worth it 💛
GUYS. the sun came out during our session last night and it was GLORIOUS! ☀️🎉
Who is in your personal squad? 🐦(Random fun fact - a group of pelicans is called a squadron or pod). I like to surround myself with women who are confident, determined, loyal, and adventurous. This week I was excited to spend some time with a long-time soul sister. We’ve been friends for almost 15 years which translates to lots of shopping trips and even more workouts together. There was lots of chatting and even more giggling. At the end of the visit my soul was feed, my heart was full, and my cheeks hurt from laughing.
Even though we live in different countries we continue to cheer each other on in life. It’s such a gift to have a tribe that gets you and loves on you no matter what life throws at you. Tag your squad in the comments ❤️
During a family photo session, I always try to get a picture of just mom & dad. They probably haven’t had a professional photo taken together since their wedding day (or ever!) and they deserve a little time to themselves. But then this is usually happens 😂 Can anyone relate? Drop a 🙋🏻♀️ below
Some of the most amazing women I have ever met are moms with twins. They have double duty and handle it with such grace and patience. 💚When I have the pleasure of photographing newborn twins I like to fill mom’s arms with babies because it’s just so stinking cute- and I can’t think of anything more special than an armful of babies. 😻👶🏼👶🏻
Friday introduction! Hi, I’m Erin! This is a self portrait I captured with one of my twins when they were two weeks old! I love capturing authentic and emotive portraits of babies, children and families. All the mamas know- they grow up so fast! Investing on photography can feel like a splurge but the results are a treasure ❤️. Your turn! Say hi below!
finally starting to realize the definition of “full hands, full heart” 😂❤️ happy Friday friends!
hey friends, I just wanted to give a shout out to all the amazing families I work with. I’m no longer booking 2018 family sessions because y’all so amazing and my calendar is full. I do leave room in my schedule for a few newborn sessions, so if you know anyone looking for a photographer, please send them my way 🖤
In November I’ll be opening my 2019 calendar to my newsletter first. You can join via the link in my profile, or drop your email below 💻 xo
Hurricane Michael is in full effect and the third strongest storm to hit the United States. Thinking of everyone’s in its path. Stay Safe Florida ❤️ ❤️❤️
What is your family's special place? For me and so many of my friends Balboa Park is a place we cherish not only for its beauty, but the memories it holds. ⠀
As a member of @fit4mom_balboapark
this is where we raised our babies. This is where we made lasting friendships with other women who understood our day-to-day struggles. This is where we got our body moving and found motivation, and inspiration from the fabulous instructors and other amazing mothers who showed up each day🙌🏻. ⠀
When a Balboa Park Stroller Strides mama says she wants her family photos taken there, it just feels natural, and right. -And it makes me happy to go back to my [and her] family's special place. 😻💚
I just realized you haven't seen me in a while. 😬 Time gets away from me sometimes. .
I'm Malerie, the photographer behind the camera and computer screen at Joyful Jane Photography. If you want to talk food, my favorite is 🌮 and they were made to go with margaritas. Of course, I love photographing my own children in creative ways, and it didn't take long before I decided I wanted to expand that love to include other families. That's the simple story of how I became a family photographer ❤. .
Lately, my creative energy has included learning to photograph with FILM! I've had lots of people express that they thought film was long gone, and "does any place even still develop film anymore?" Yes, friends, they do, and film is AMAZING. For this reason, I have decided to shoot at least one roll of film (maybe one color and one black & white 🤷♀) at each family session throughout the fall. YOU'RE WELCOME! Love you, too 😘
I'd love to hear what passion projects you have been working on. For me, that includes photographing my babies on black & white film with their grandparents. I don't do that enough.
hey friends, do me a favor. remind all the dads out there that photo sessions are easy peasy, quick, and painless. all they gotta do is hold their babies and love on them ❤️ tag a dad below
