Our first #mentormonday
with Landscape Architect, Site Mentor, SMMA Team Lead and Board Member - Samantha Farrell. •
We asked - Why do you mentor?
“Mentoring is one of the best parts of my week. Connecting with high school students and helping them achieve that “Ah-ha!” moment is an amazing feeling; for them and for me! I love nature and designing spaces, and being able to share/spark that passion in future designers and engineers is great way to end the day.”•

Every Building on the Sunset Strip | Ed Ruscha,1966
For this photographic survey of Los Angeles' Sunset Strip, Ruscha rigged a camera to the back of a pick-up truck and drove back and forth along the strip, shooting both sides of the avenue. The idea becomes a machine that makes the art. The book constituted a significant redefinition of the traditional artist's or photographer's book, expensively bound to highlight the quality reproductions inside. [thearthistory.org]

The Ginko Leaf Drop. November 11, 2018. Most flowering trees take a few weeks to form leaf scars between their leaves and stems to protect them from winter. Ginkos form a scar across all stems on the tree at once. So at the first hard freeze, all of the leaves fall together. ⠀

November Monthly Special - Buxus microphylla "Faulkner" 600mm Ball
Prefer the deep green of traditional English Box, but your climate is too warm for success? Then Buxus Faulkner is the choice for you.
Buxus Faulkner will grow anywhere Japanese Box thrives, but gives a completely different look. Buxus Faulkner also seems to tolerate more shade than Japanese Box.
Slower growing than Japonica, Faulkner makes an admirable topiary specimen or the perfect elegant dark green hedge.

This family came to us in desperate need of help. They were having horrible drainage issues causing the water to ‘sit.’ We graded and seeded their backyard then laid straw blanket to prevent any erosion until their new grass begins to grow!
We love looking at before & after photos from our projects! ⠀
