Joe Kennedy Wants Legalized Marijuana, House Democrats Vow to Allow Debate on the Issue
A patchwork of laws governing the sale and use of recreational and medical marijuana “compounds the dysfunction” surrounding legalization of marijuana, U.S. Congressman Joe Kennedy III wrote in a recent essay.
The answer? “I believe we must implement strong, clear, and fair federal guidelines. To do that requires us to remove marijuana from the Controlled Substances Act (CSA) and legalize it at the federal level,” Kennedy wrote for STAT.
That position reverses Kennedy’s earlier opposition to legalized marijuana. But the 38-year-old congressman, who has served in Congress since 2013, said his mind has been changed through his own research and experiences.
He is perhaps the most famous name in politics to come out in favor of nationwide legalization of marijuana, but he’s not alone in talking about the issue.

Q: What is the difference between vaping and smoking MMJ?
A: Vaporizing cannabis heats the active ingredient to a boil. Vaporizers will typically remain under 200 degrees to avoid “blowing up.” The heat releases the active ingredients into a vapor which is released into the air as a fine mist. Consequently, this allows medical marijuana patients to inhale medicinal qualities of the cannabis without any of the tar, ammonia, carcinogens, or other irritants that smoke contains. This process is healthier than traditional smoking, so it is often preferred by medical cannabis patients.
