I want to challenge you this week to choose one from the five actions below and either write it on a piece of paper that you will see all the time, or if you enjoy journaling you can use this space to remind yourself of what you want to focus on. Drop the self-judgement It is time to accept yourself with the good, the bad, the ugly, the sexy, and the not so sexy—all of it—and appreciating yourself “as enough”. Own your inner and outer beauty and feel comfortable giving yourself a compliment or be open to receiving compliments graciously without feeling guilty, arrogant, or entitled. Choosing mindfulness and staying present. Listen to your feelings. Try and not preoccupy your time with mindless activities. Spend some quality, connected time with yourself instead of always watching TV or wasting time on the Internet. Choose your mode of self-care It is time to step up and take full responsibility for your health and well-being. Do what you love, and stick with it. Giving your body the care and attention, it craves has so many rewards. Anti-aging, stress reduction, fewer doctors’ bills, and more rewarding relationships. Be your own best friend When it comes to self-love it means choosing yourself, when you need to! If you are personally stretched and need time alone instead of accepting an invite out, do so. It might mean upsetting others and not being popular anymore, but feeling tired, overwhelmed will not serve you going forward. It also means building a life that you love and being comfortable to be on your own instead of relying or waiting for your prince/princess to show up. Know what your limitations are and set those boundaries Using discretion when sharing your heart, self, and dreams with others. Boundaries build integrity and sincerity, they foster genuine and caring relationships. Don’t fall victim to dishonesty, manipulation, co-dependence, withholding, and pretense. It’s so easy to get caught up following what your mind and intellect keep telling you to do. Usually because it’s ‘sensible’ and fits in with how you think you should present yourself to the world. But there’s a limit to what your mind can see. There are whole other worlds/selves inside of you that you get glimpses of in your dreams, your most secret desires and even by what triggers you - like envy or ‘how could they just go and do THAT!’ responses to someone who decides to abandon what looked like a respectable career to pursue what they really want. A fast way to check in with your authentic self to determine what direction you need to go next is to pay attention to what excites your inner child. Because that’s what will bring you the most joy and fulfilment. Some people spend years shaping themselves according to how they imagine other people are seeing them and how others expect them to be. But living an outer directed life never pays off in the long run. And the longer you live this way the harder it can get to undo this way of being in the world because it becomes like a default program running 24/7 in the background in your brain. The daily routine of a retiree: 6:30 - wake up, put on CNN and have a coffee in bed 7:30 - morning yoga routine: 50 sit-ups, 6 cat/cow, 50 push-ups, 30 eccentric hamstring stretches, 2 sun salutations. 7:45 - breakfast at computer, checking email, instagram, Facebook etc. 8:15 - shower etc. 8:35 - on the road 9:00 - dentist appointment, cracked filling 10:00 - back home, calling to get CT roadside assistance since a sale started today till Sunday 10:15 - 6.5 km morning Walk to the pier in beautiful Port Dover (using Strava) 11:30 - called to get “Elvira’s” (Porsche) insurance back on finally!!!! 12:00 - lunch 1:00 - 30 km trail ride on the mountain bike- ***fantastic, sunshine, fresh air *** 3:30 - quick snack break, another shower 4:30 - Power Hour Yoga 6:00 - time for a Scotch “Balvenie” 7:00 - Glass of red wine (Fat Bastard) and cordon bleu with ceasar salad (down six pounds since mid winter 👍) 8:00 - time for Netflix and “Shameless” 10:30 ready for bed, 2&1/2 men, new crossword on iPad!! Repeat! I quit going to the gym 15 years ago. The mirrors, the judgement (my own and what I perceived from others)...I hated it! I was putting so much pressure on myself to keep up with the person next to me on the treadmill or feeling like I wasn't working hard enough when the numbers on the machine didn't meet my expectations. The gym just wasn't for me.  Breaking up with the gym created the space for me to get creative with my workouts - step outside of my comfort zone and try new things. It also created the opportunity for me to shift my perspective about working out - instead of focusing on the person next me or calories burned, I started focusing on how I felt when I was moving my body. These days my motivation is always to feel good before, during and after working out. ▫️ You can shift your focus as well. Instead working out to lose weight or because you feel like you should or have to, focus on how you feel. Do the things that bring you joy, whether that's swimming or tennis or dancing. Working out + moving your body should feel more like pleasure than punishment. What movement or exercise brings you joy? ▫️📷: @lvphotoanddesign
