Periodising your nutrition with your training 📊 . Different style of training programs will have different nutritional requirements. For example an athlete on a strength/skill biased program will consume a lower CHO ratio then that of an athlete on a endurance style program. This may not always be the case as other factors are taken into consideration but the two nutrition programs will differ. Different sports will each come with their own on/off season training schedules and this will have an impact on the athletes nutrition also. Knowing what your focus is in training means you can then periodise your nutrition accordingly. Do you want to get stronger? Improve your gymnastics? Build a better engine? Think of your main focus and let that be the base you build everything else around. We all want to be leaner, faster, stronger and fitter but we can’t refine all those things at once. So there’s a close family wedding coming up and one desperately has a few kilos to lose. It isn’t just look good ( a bit of vanity does no harm!) but also health wise. I feel much fitter and able to carry myself without aches and pains since losing weight. My advice for the next generation is to look after your body, don’t take it for granted, it’s not for life. Before you know it, the parts are sore and need replacing. You ache before bed and you wake with a headache. I always assumed these bodily issues would occur in my fifties or even forties. Never did in my wildest vision did I expect to be making these complaints in my thirties. I got asked today if I ever run out of energy.. I certainly do, in fact I burnt the candle at both ends when I was in my 20’s and got diagnosed with chronic fatigue. So I learnt a lot about health, energy and understanding that something has to give. I look like I have a lot of energy because I use it when needed, replenish it and slow down (which no one sees)a routine is so helpful when the body knows what it’s doing each day. I use my energy first by creating energy and I do that through exercise. My routine is strength training 2x a week, endurance/HIIT 2 x a week and constant movement during the day, I don’t rest a lot simply because I wait until later. I replenish with quiet time, breathing, reading and writing. I take supplements for health not for weightloss or weight management, so I stick to an all natural product and use super greens, high antioxidant berries, immune boosters and a natural protein powder, I do this because I am on constantly on the go and need to refuel , however I don’t replace meals, I make sure I sit down to a healthy breakfast and dinner everyday full of good stuff. Then SLEEP, I used to be a terrible sleeper, couldn’t stop thinking and worrying but the amount of energy I burn during the day makes for a deep sleep and I sort my worries out before putting my head down. The biggest stress for most people, especially women is trying to get everything done, it exhausts us mentally and physically if the body feels that it always has something to finish. so I’ve learnt to ask for help when I can, leave things that really aren’t important and have a plan to get all the things that are important done or simplified and just recently have started to set boundaries so I can adopt better time management. What sort of things help you? I’m interested to see if you have some special tricks I can give a try.

‘CORK’ Injury || Bad soft tissue bruising occurs when small blood vessels break under the skin and bleed into the surrounding muscle tissue.😱This most commonly occurs on the thighs and calves. More commonly referred to as a ‘cork’ injury, it can be graded into one of 3 categories; ➡️MILD: The affected area may be tender to touch, the strength of the muscle may be affected and the ability to stretch the muscle may be diminished. Generally activity isn’t affected at the time of injury, though pain is generally felt post cooldown or the following day. Return to Sport after 2 to 3 weeks. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ ➡️MODERATE: The affected area is tender to touch and unable to perform activity as per usual. Range of motion can reduce up to 50%. Return to activity – 4 to 6 weeks. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ ➡️SEVERE: Rapid onset of swelling and bruising that is difficult to control. Movement and mobilty loss will be severe with the affected area may be very painful. When severe, the risk of developing Myositis Ossificans is high. Calcification occurs in the healing hematoma which forms small bone deposits within the layers of the muscle. Return to activity – 8 weeks minimum* (depending on severity) ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ ☝🏻A treatment and management plan is essential to ensure optimum recovery. This plan will depend on which category the injury falls into. TOP TIPS:👇🏻 1️⃣Immediately after injury, utilise the RICE principle (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation). Day 2 of the grateful for mobility challenge with @docjenfit and @themobilitymethod Today's plan was to do a workout. However, I woke up with a hideous headache (it's still not gone) It was a sure sign that my body is after some restorative care. So I repeated yesterdays exercises, used my Pulseroll and completed today's exercises I did the wrist exercises which I won't lie, they felt odd and uncomfortable. This highlighted how I don't really do a alot to stretch and mobilise my hands and wrists. Jen is absolutely right, we do so much with our hands everyday and we get to be grateful for that! (and do exercises to help them function well) Here's a little snippet of me practicing the cat cow and child's pose that followed. It was so nice to breathe!
