“Don’t expect to reap during a season of sowing.”
Those were the words of a friend/mentor yesterday; as he was helping me see beyond the here and now.
That’s such a powerful statement!
Think about it.
If you were to be a farmer who sowed an apple seed today; you know it would be very stupid to expect that seed to bring forth fruit tomorrow.
That same reality transfers to our dreams, our marriages, our friendships, to our finances and so on.
There are seasons when you are meant to simply sow, not reap.
The problem of course is that sowing feels like a waste of time because sowing has to do with YOUR investment and YOUR effort in giving something, without receiving nothing. At least immediately.
Also, it takes time. Which most of us don’t have or at least we think so.
But, in order for you to enter into a season of reaping, you first need to sow. There’s no reaping without first sowing.
I heard a story of a guy who went to Africa to help the poor.
He saw some mothers with babies on their backs, working the ground with tears in their eyes. They were crying. He didn’t know why.
We he asked them why they were crying, they told him that they were really hungry and wanted to eat the seeds right now. But they knew that in order to have more seeds and fruits for the future they needed to sacrifice today. They needed to sow the seeds while staying hungry.
You see, today’s sacrifice can turn into tomorrow’s fulfillment.
The seed you put in the ground today, will turn into a season of fulfillment and abundance, even if you’re hungry right now.
So here’s my advice.
Even if you do it with tears in your eyes, sow seeds of love, courage, faith, beauty, and life.
Because one seed has the potential to turn into multiple seeds. One seed can turn into the food you and the people around you eat tomorrow.
A seed carries the potential for a better future, but it begins with a sacrificial act today.
So go...don’t stop.
Keep sowing. Keep dreaming. Keep loving.
The future is coming.
And it will be better than today.
