Here we are again. Putting to bed false perceptions on fat loss. The idea that food type defines whether fat loss occurs or not... Describing misplaced concepts about quality ingredients as a means to manage or change body composition... - - Consumption of nutrients and quality ingredients is vital for optimal health and there is no doubt that the two juices on the left contain an abundance of nutrients. But they also contain calories and sugar - 1100 of total calories deriving from sugar to be exact. 1350 calories and 275g of sugar in total. - - I did plan to do this graphic with the zero sugar versions of the soft drinks on the right, but this actually displays my point better. Whilst the drinks on the right are bereft of any nutritional value, seven of the cans combine to 411 calories and 99g of sugar. That’s less than 1/3 of the calories of the ‘superfood’, ‘invigorating’ drinks on the left. In addition, nearly 1/3 of their sugar content. - - If the goal is to alter body composition, every decision you make is important - everything you do means something. This doesn’t mean that you need to worry or be confused as to what you need to do or consume to achieve your goal. It means you need to be objective. You need to understand the basic fundamentals of energy balance and apply that theory to your goal. - - Consuming 1350 calories from the juices on the left may fit your goal. However, I suspect that consuming such a proportion of calories from a drink each week will not necessarily support your goal as well as consuming water and actual fruit, complete with fibre to help with satiety. - - Health and fitness is all encompassing. Many parts of it overlap. But don’t get confused with nutrient intake and calorie intake - whilst they are both important, they represent very different things. WE ARE STARVING All of us. We are all starving nutritionally. We are eating loads of calories everyday with no nutrients in. Hence why we are always hungry! Our cells that make everyday life happen are starving, they aren't being nourished. Food devoid of vitamins and minerals and high in bad fats and sugars are killing us. Diseases are rife, diabetes and cancers related to lifestyle, but we never do anything about it. We are all about convenience food. Produce in supermarkets disguised as food that is addictive that wants you craving more. Products that trick us into thinking they are healthy. Fortified cereals for instance they have no vitamins and minerals in them so they get added into them. Pretty packages designed to tempt us into buying food, telling us that is.. Low fat.. Low carb.. Low calorie.. High in vitamins.. No added sugar.. But guess what.. That isn't real food!! It's processed crap packaged as real food! We aren't eating real food anymore. Plus temptation is everywhere. Everywhere you walk, convenience foods round every corner. No wonder we are all walking around like zombies. When was the last time you actually felt good? Got up easily in the morning? Loads of energy, didn't feel bloated, and slept well? We are used to walking around feeling like this, thinking that this is normal. Guess what. This is not normal! Have you ever checked the amount of micronutrients that's going into your body? You should. Track your food for a week with fitness pal and check how many vitamins your getting in daily from your food. Every time I look at clients food diaries to see where they are going wrong it's sometimes easy to tell. 15% vitamin A 20% vitamin C 0% calcium 0% iron Basically no nutrition from fresh fruit or vegetables. Up your game!! Make a conscious effort to up your vegetable intake. Cut all the rubbish from your diet, the processed foods, the inflammatory foods. Notice the difference.

The cheat meal. Aka the meal that goes ‘off plan’ for people trying to lose weight. Many a fitness model post about their ‘cheat meals’, so naturally we think we need them too. - - Firstly. What are you cheating? In this ‘cheat meal’ you’ll still be consuming calories, just like you would during any meal. Those calories are not exempt. - - Secondly. If you feel the need to have a monumental calorie blowout regularly, your diet is probably not sustainable. Cheating at anything usually means you have no other viable means of achieving the goal you want. - - Thirdly. My graphic is an example of how these excessive meals could be detrimental to a calorie deficit. Though this is a specific example involving a 1600 calorie per day diet, the point remains for any calorie target. In this case, the meal on the left could fit the goal, but only if the individual didn’t eat for a day afterwards... What would you prefer? One excessive meal (3150 calories) and 3-5 hours of satiety? Or six meals, a few snacks, 2 days of eating and 48 hours of satiety for the same calorie value? Both work, but you’ll probably feel better on the latter. - - Instead of ‘cheating’, just look at food for what it actually is - an energy value and a source of nutrients. Experienced fitpro’s may refer to their flexible diet by referencing cheat meals, but in reality this is just a word to them - they are aware of their overall energy intake and that’s why they are succeeding. To someone desperately trying to lose weight, the whole concept of cheating is misleading, pointless and unhelpful. Does fructose make you fat?
▪️Many of you probably heard that fructose is bad for your health and makes you fat. Fructose occurs is fruits. Are fruits now bad for you? And what about the influences on your performance?
▪️Something a lot of people don’t know is that fructose also occurs in table sugar(saccharose). It consists of 50% glucose and 50% fructose. Sugar in return is used for a lot of processed food you can buy. In the end, you might consume more fructose than you thought.
▪️Now let's have a look at fructose and performance in sports. Studies showed that it doesn't matter if you consume glucose or fructose (or those fancy „MALTO X“ products) after your training. On contrary, it's even superior to consume table sugar, because it also gets absorbed by the liver and therefore your glycogen store gets replenished faster. Not that isolated fructose was not taken into account. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ▪️What about your health? For your health, there has been also several studies. They showed that there were no significant differences between glucose and fructose in a short-term problem with fructose. Crucial is that there is no caloric surplus. For your health, in long-term, it can be a problem though. This time there was a caloric surplus. This caused an increase in liver fat. Also worth mentioning is that in the study 25% of the calories were coming from fructose, which is a lot. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
➤ Takeaway: As with everything it depends on the dosage if it’s bad. When experiencing diarrhea you should avoid fructose. Some might also argue about a correlation between fructose and inflammation. Loving this explanation on flow and balance by : In order to get into Flow, your nervous system has to be balanced. What i mean by that is that your gas (sympathetic nervous system) and brake (parasympathetic nervous system) are dancing beautifully with one another. During trauma, your nervous system goes from full gas to immediate brake. This what is happening when you feel explosive rage or anxiety, followed by depression and lethargy. This stressful state is known as the "Struggle Phase" of Flow cycle. Trying to "think" your way into a better space is incredibly difficult from this stressful state because you are literally fighting your own biology. Your frontal lobes are offline, and your body is on red alert. Using affirmations, talking or self inquiry are at their lest effective. When you begin stretching and activating your muscles in a slow, steady way, keeping yourself within the boundaries of empowerment, your muscle fibers send a signal to your brain telling it to down-regulate the stress response. When this particular type of practice is done for 20 minutes or longer- We initiate the second stage of flow- the "Release phase". This is the beginning of the cascade of feel good chemicals that make our re-wiring process accessible.  Flow and re-wiring are inaccessible when we are in a state of stress. They can only happen when our nervous system has been regulated.
