FAT AND OBESITY #8
: CAFFEINE AND THE FAT CELL- Caffeine in Tea and Coffee boosts mental energy, and stimulates Fat Cells to release stored fat by breaking down triglycerides to fatty acids through the actions of a Lipase enzyme in the Fat Cell. Caffeine increases the blood levels of two hormones called Epinephrine and Norepinephrine in the bloodstream and these bind to a protein on the surface of the fat cell called the beta-adrenergic receptor. These same hormones increase your pulse rate and cause some sweating. Caffeine also increases sports performance through the same actions. There is a genetic difference in how people respond to caffeine based on differences in the CYP1A1 and CYP1A2 genes which code for enzymes that break down caffeine and clear it from the bloodstream. People with slower metabolism take in an average of 100 milligrams (mg) per day while those with the faster metabolism for the break down of caffeine take 400 mg. Tea including green tea, black tea, oolong tea and other varieties are the most commonly consumed drinks after water in the world. They have from 25 to 40 mg per cup. Coffee has between 85 and 150 mg. Cocoa has only 5 mg and Espresso has about 40 mg. The maximum intake that is healthy according to the FDA is 400 mg per day. Some energy drinks push right up to this limit. The body increases its ability to break down caffeine when you begin to drink it regularly, so if someone has never had coffee or tea, they should start slowly and may experience a rapid pulse or sweating. This is not dangerous, but some people are frightened by this. They should be reassured that it will pass. An energy boost, reduced appetite, improved exercise performance, and fat loss are all benefits of caffeine -so drink up but be sure to follow up your energy boost with the fuel from a Protein-Rich Shake as part of Balanced Nutrition and a Healthy Active Lifestyle!!!
