Our first post documents our first visit to a new location in Lafayette: KOKlinton Wings.
What I ordered: 10pc boneless w/ loaded fries & fountain drink (TLC sauce)
Service (7/10): Ordering consists of waiting in line and placing an order at the counter, then waiting for your order to be brought to you by a runner. Cashiers were friendly and helpful. Despite a busy crowd it took only around 10 minutes for the orders to come out of the kitchen.
Atmosphere (6/10): Sadly, the kitchen vent was broken the day we visited, so it was very hot and smoky. Despite these small setbacks, the restaurant is busy and lively, obviously targeting the college demographic that dominates the area. Hip hop/rap was playing and college football was on the TVs throughout the barn-like building. Since it was hot and slightly loud, we sat for a minute then took our food to-go.
Food (8/10): I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and was quite satisfied when I was able to finish all of it in a single sitting. My sauce (TLC) featured a combination of a sweet dry rub and a very humble bbq sauce with the very slightest touch of heat. I ordered the 10pc because of my (correct) assumption that the boneless wings would be small. The cashier asked me if I wanted loaded fries so I just said yes. Although all it consisted of was bbq sauce and ranch, it was quite delicious and smoothed out the texture of the thick-cut fries. The chicken was tender and crispy and was drenched is very generous amounts of sauce.
Overall/avg score: 7/10
Price: $$$ (out of 5)
My meal contained A LOT of food. However, the size right below this one is only a 5pc. This definitely makes it difficult to choose which meal is filling enough for the right price. Although I went all out, $20 for one person can scare many people away, especially broke college students.
