Shattered Hour glass:
What do you think of when you see an hour glass? For me? 🤔 I think of all the movies I watched growing up. The ones where the bad guy uses it to remind the hero or heroine that when the time is up, they will die. In the really good ones, the hero/heroine is able to get out of whatever predicament they are in and ultimately end up destroying the hourglass or time display. I have applied this same concept for this tattoo. The hour glass is life. It’s frame is made up of gnarled and aged roots to represent that this thought has been ingrained in us as children. This thought process that we have to achieve certain things by a certain time/age. Everyone knows the thought process. You go to high school. You go to college. You start a career. You find a significant other. You reproduce. And so on and so on...... I hate this concept. It has estranged me from most of my family. I have followed none of those timelines. In essence, I shattered my hour glass. It doesn’t work for me, it never did. It never will. My ideals and goals can’t be measured with an hourglass. They take however long it takes. Every time I look at this tattoo, I realize that I am not where other people my age are, and that’s ok. They are not me and I am not them. We all have different goals and timelines.
