"A true seeker of knowledge will pursue the path of dharma, of right action, at any cost. He is determined to reach the highest goal and nothing can deflect him. However, not everybody is endowed with such intense longing for God, for liberation. Most people are quite happy with the complexities of their lives. They like getting lost in the labyrinth of their actions. In fact, they love it.
. "All they want, every now and then, when they have gotten themselves into a pickle, is for somebody to come and clear the mess away. If they happen to be sunk in a stupor, then they want somebody to come along and wake them up. If they happen to be caught in a patch of wild bushes, surrounded by thorns, they want somebody to come and cut them loose and then leave them alone. In all these cases, they want you to save them...and then go home.
. "So most people are thoroughly comfortable with the state of their own affairs. They're fond of all their delusions. If you ask them to change, you're basically going against the grain; you're rubbing them the wrong way and creating a bit of distress in their lives.
. "Nobody wants to go to heaven if it means leaving his familiar depressing surroundings. The force of habit is just like gravity: it holds everyone down."
