MAKING HEALTHY CHOICES ✨ Hopefully by now you know that I'm not the person who eats well every single day and never gives in to "treats". But I am the person who knows what is good for her body and tries to give her body those foods (for the most part). Eating well doesn't mean eating clean 100% of the time. It means fuelling your body but enjoying what you eat ❤️ ✨ A time that making healthy choices can be more difficult is when you're eating out at a restaurant. Sure, treat yourself, enjoy your food BUT if you have goals that you are working towards don't let a meal out completely derail you. ✨ A few little tips you can try: ✔️ Check the menu beforehand and find something that you will enjoy. ❌ Don't look at something you like and then opt for a salad because you feel you have to. ✔️ Make the meal you want healthier - swap your chips out for a side of vegetables but still have that hunters chicken you've been salivating over for days ✔️ Try and avoid words like "deep fried" "smothered" "creamy" and opt for words like "steamed", "baked" and "boiled" ✔️ Ask yourself if you're going to miss those chips you've swapped out...tomorrow. Are you going to look back tomorrow, next week, in a month and think "damn I really regret not having chips at that meal ages ago"? Probably not. ❌ Skip your meal out altogether. Life is for LIVING. Nutrition doesn’t have to be hard. Tip #1 - smoothies are SUPER easy for a quick breakfast. I love mine with superfoods/plant based protein. Tip #2 - PLAN ahead for the week. If you make a plan and meal prep, then you’ll be less likely to get off track. When you’re crazy busy, you can reach for a meal you’ve already made rather than make an excuse to pick up fast food or skip a meal. Tip #3 - you can keep it SIMPLE. Meal prep doesn’t have to be some crazy elaborate thing. It can be chopping veggies for salads, throwing some quinoa in a rice cooker, and cooking up a stir fry or some baked chicken and veggies. Confession Time.......... No matter what I do or try, I will ALWAYS have an incredible sweet tooth ❤🍪. There is nothing better to me than a fresh baked cookie or brownie. But let's be real here, we all know eating them ALL the time is not going to get me the strong, healthy body I desire. So what do I do about it........I work at it every single day. I don't allow myself treats everyday, because I don't NEED them everyday, but I do allow them. I mean c'mon this is my life and hell yeah I want to to enjoy everything in it. I just do it smarter and less often now. And I look for healthier options or versions of some of my favorite too, like these delicious peanut butter (ummmm, my favorite) oatmeal, chocolate chip cookies🍪......can you say yummy?? . . Here's the recipe: . • 1 cup all natural peanut or almond butter • 2 eggs • 1/2 cup raw honey or pure maple syrup • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract • 2/3 cup gluten free rolled oats • 1 teaspoon baking soda • 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips Instructions: 1. Preheat oven to 350° 2. Combine oats and baking soda in a bowl 3. Combine everything else, except chocolate chips, mix until creamy 4. Add oat mixture, then add chocolate chips. 5. Form into cookies and bake for about 10 minutes (edges will begin to brown) Spinkle some sea salt (optional) cool and enjoy!!! 🍪 . . I know I talk a lot about motivation and making healthy choices. Don’t think for a minute that I always follow my own advice or that I’m always excited to go to class or exercise. Today, it took everything I had in me to get out the door and into the studio. At 4:30 this afternoon I was asleep on the couch full of cough and cold medicine. I felt yucky and have a cough I can’t seem to shake. Ballet was the last place I wanted to be, but probably the best place for me. I’m not sorry I went. I pushed myself and didn’t let the excuses win today and honestly, I feel a lot better. Exercising when you’re feeling crummy can be a huge help- getting the energy and motivation to get started is a whole other topic. Haha. But exercising when you are feeling slightly under the weather is great- it helps your body release the toxins that are making you feel yuck. Obviously I’m not suggesting you run a marathon when you have the flu, but 20-30 minutes of mid-level cardio, a yoga or Pilates class, or a dance class can really help your body kick that nastiness going on inside when you’re down with the sniffles, a cough, or a cold. When you’re feeling under the weather, listen to your body- really listen. After nearly 6 years on this journey my view on this meal is that it’s fuel. That every part of it is going to help me function better and be more energetic in everything that I do. Came across this gem today. It took me so long to get back into the gym because I was afraid of being a beginner. A little backstory: I grew up in Texas and played football through high school. My senior year I broke my foot twice at the beginning and again at the end of the year. I thought the injuries were over but the next year I tore 3 ligaments in my ankle and had to have surgery to fix them. After all the injuries it had been 8 years since I had been in the gym. Now that I have been consistent for the last month I’ve lost 5-6% of my body fat and I’m working on losing more. I feel better than I think I ever have in my entire life. So in short I’m just saying that you shouldn’t put off getting healthier because you’re afraid of the beginning. Push hard and work your butt off and it will change your life. Sometimes the healthy thing to do for mind and body is to be done with a workout, showered, dinner done & ate, and dishes cleaned all before 6:30 (I had a small dessert before I took this). It doesnt happen often but being able to relax this early for the night and possibly go to sleep earlier than normal will do wonders for my mind and body tomorrow. It's definitely okay to take time for yourself in this way. There was only so much hospital 🏥 food I could handle during our stay over the weekend and so I ended up stocking up on a few ready-made meals that were easy to heat-and-eat 🥗. . . I hate when people ask me "aren't you on a diet?" when they see me eating something sweet. When I think about a diet, I associate it with a negative mindset. I picture food as the enemy, something that is temporary and leading to a "finish line". I think about a journey focused on the scale, and all the things that I don't like about myself.
