There is meditation technique I learned many years ago from one of my favorite books The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari by @robinsharma and its called the Heart of the Rose. In the book It says the Rose is very much like life: you meet thorns along the way, but if you have faith and believe in your dreams, you will eventually move beyond the thorns into the glory of the flower. You just have to keep staring at the Rose. When I use this technique I start from the center of the Rose (the heart) and just follow the petals all the way out. It helps to focus and not think about anything else except the perfection in the path. And when one path ends another begins getting you exactly where you intended to go. Few thoughts this morning post workout while I sip my pumpkin spice coffee #basicandloveit ☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️ . . This might be a little tough love (emphasis on the love💕) but let’s talk excuses... mainly the thousand and six reasons why we can’t say YES right now. Now I understand there are circumstances where it’s absolutely not going to work or you physically cannot workout, but a majority of the time it’s just... an excuse. . . There’s a lot of “I have a lot going on right now” floating around... and let’s be frank. I had a myriad of excuses why myself back in the beginning. And most of them stem from NOT LOVING YOURSELF ENOUGH to fill your cup first. How the hell are we as women supposed to take care of everyone else in our lives (spouses, children, family, friends, etc) if we do not take care of US!? 🤯 Seriously. Think about that. How many times have you ran yourself thin taking care of everything else but you... and wound up sick and paying for it. 🤷🏽‍♀️ . . This always stems back to the basic need of loving ourselves enough to know we are worthy and deserving of health, feeling GOOD in our bodies, and rocking the mf self confidence we all want. #hellyes 💯 . . So JUST STOP stopping yourself. If you’re ready for change, support, help, tired of your same old bs... if anything what I’m saying speaks to you.. then let’s chat. HOT YOGA!! > After my class this morning, I spoke to an AMAZING women, who 6 weeks ago took her first hot yoga class, and 2 weeks ago took on a 21 day hot yoga challenge. The challenge was to take 21 classes in 30 days...she completed this last night!!! Happiness is not just extreme giddy laughter and excitement. There are so many things that can bring us happiness and many of them are simple and quiet things. Freshly laundered sheets, a relaxing bath, watching the birds on the bird feeder, or snuggling up with a good book are all things that make me feel happy. Sometimes we can neglect the things that make us happy by getting trapped by our to do lists and chores. There is always some cleaning job or errand that needs to be done. The first step is to think about and list the things that make you feel happy and relaxed. Then you make sure to include time for these things in your to do list. Make your happiness a priority alongside the recycling and the shopping. Be creative and find ways to include your favourite things into each day. Don’t save them all up for the weekend. We can be so cruel with ourselves and enforce a regime of no fun until all the chores are done. Regular small bursts of happiness can keep us sane during a busy time but also acknowledges our humanity. One of those “laying there, reading a book, feeling relaxed and next thing you know you wake up” situations. It’s not often I let my mind turn off. That I totally unplug. It’s not often but when it happens it is completely amazing. The most restful 20 minutes I’ve had in a long time. Alright I fell behind on #handstandswithts but here is our second to last day #hollowback ☺️ This is THAT pose for me, ya know...the one you so want to be able to do and FEEL. The first time I tried a hollowback was in handstand against the wall about a year ago and I was baffled why it was so difficult for me. I kept saying in my head “just let your butt fall to the wall” 😂 It took me some time to realize that there is A LOT of shoulder mobility and upper back flexibility required for this, the 2 things I struggle with most. Since my teacher training I’ve really learned about the spaces that are tighter in my body and how to effectively target them. Are you a person who organizes everything for the next day, the night before? . I have never been that person who can chose my outfit, pack my lunch, or decide on anything the night before . That is until now!! I finally feel like I am getting on top of my life in order to make more time for myself! It has been an experience getting back into a routine this semester, but staying on top of making time for myself by working out or giving myself 30 minutes to unwind has helped tremendously. . This is for all you busy Mama’s out there! We have tuff jobs that start from the moment we open our eyes in the morning. Getting kids to school, making lunches, helping with homework, wiping dirty noses, getting them to sports and kissing them goodnight. But it’s seriously the BEST job ever! I workout for 30 minutes a day on average and I will tell you the secret to keeping boy fat down and toning is 95% what you consume. Thia program has helped me to make better decisions about my eating because I track what I eat on a daily basis. That dedication has allowed me to understand what works for my body and what my body need to maintain my weigth while building muscle. Although weightloss is not my goal, I continue to trim and lose inches off my waist and dedine my abs. Fitness for me is about feeling great and showing others that it can be done. This week marks my 6th week in the gym with a trainer. For a long time I have had a jacked up view of diet and exercise. My entire life if I want to lose weight I restrict my diet. The exercises part fell in line with calorie restriction since it helped me lose weight quicker. Fast forward to more recent years and I haven't had a care in the world about my diet or my weight. But health is much more than a number on a scale, or if it jiggles, or if it stays still, etc. I'm reading a book that really slapped me in the face before my training session last week. It said, "Your body doesn't need you, but you do need your body." Let that one sink in!!! It is so true your body is down for whatever but as we age we are stuck in the body we prepare for ourselves. This isn't about thick or thin. . Shoulders: traps & delts 👆 My absolute favorite muscle groups to build and tone!!! . . My "plan" today was to wake up, get baby fed and dressed, and go to my apartment gym to complete Day 2 of my weight training program....but baby had other plans ...... so my plans had to be modified too. 😂 No one really explained to me how challenging making plans would be once I have a child. And those who know me, know I'm ALL ABOUT making plans, setting alarms and being on-time. I am very quickly realizing that my days and plans now revolve completely around my baby girl.👧♥ 👉Although having a newborn throws things off a little bit, 🙅I don't let that affect my goals to get back to my pre-baby weight. I just modify. 👌 I am learning to be okay with having my plans change last minute AND with having to make modifications to those plans. When you're feeling beat up by your week and work and studying and you want a confidence boost you have a photoshoot! This past week has been rough for me, I have just been going through the motions. My life is hectic and I've been letting it drag me down. Big test on Friday, crazy work hours, trying to keep up with my workouts and missing my husband.
