I first met her on the sets of a film called #milan
. She looked bored and disinterested. But she came into the room and we started chatting away like two school girls. Something about @m_koirala
that made me want to go back again and again. It was her vulnerability on screen and off it, her warm performances in #khamoshi #bombay #agnisaakshi #1942alovestory #yugpurush
that made me warm up to her. I recall the fun photo shoots we would do in between shots while the shooting of #Gupt #akelehumakeletum
would go on endlessly. Can you imagine doing a full fledged photo shoot between an actual film shoot? Yup, those were fun zany times. I’ve also gone outfit sourcing for her and she gamely wore the stuff that we magazine reporters gave her thinking it was high fashion:) Those days there were no filters, no silly managers and prs to dictate the extent of our associations. When manisha spoke she spoke from the gut. She was raw, uncensored and really warm. Her ability to get into wrong relationships has made me give her many lectures and she would good naturedly ruffle my hair after every dressing down. Manisha made racy copy off and on record. And I would have to edit so much of it. Suffice to say I’ve seen her at her most vulnerable and most strongest. More than anything sometimes it’s the shared history and passage of time and memories that keeps people together.
We had more ups than downs. I look back at her with a lot of fondness and affection. On her birthday today I wish her many more years of good health, joy and happiness. As a reporter she was one of the important milestones in my life. She showed me kindness and compassion when she could have dismissed me as just another face among the swarm of journos. She didn’t. Thank you for being you Manisha. Happy birthday:)
