Students, our current Representative Norine Hammond voted for Rauner-approved budget cuts and for withholding Monetary Assistance Program (MAP) Grants from the financially underprivileged students who depend on them to attend college.
In spring of 2016, she voted “present” on SB 2043, which would have funded the MAP Grants.
Then she voted “no” against overriding the Governor’s veto of this legislation, forcing #WIU
to dip into their already low cash reserves to cover #MAP
, triggering cuts in other areas of the university.
Then, she voted “no” on SB 2990 and its funding piece HB 648, which would have funded WIU with a 10 percent cut. She has since backed the Rauner-approved legislation that cut the university appropriation to what it was 18 years ago, in 2000.
She has hurt our WIU enough. Let's #ElectJohnCurtis
and get FULL funding for WIU and our students!!! #LeatherneckNation
